Not doing a dissertation?

So i'm in my 4th year at uni, got my degree last year but decided to stay on for my honors year.
The only reason i am staying on is because we have the option of not doing a dissertation, instead we are doing a hosted project in groups. Only 3 people (out of a class of 21) are opting to do a dissertation.
I was just wondering if anyone else has been though one of these before? We have been told that a lot of students have been offered jobs at the companies after their projects, has anyone here been in that position?
Also does anyone have any tips on how to get the best marks from both the uni and the company?
thanks

It's funny I should read this today. In a hospital waiting room yesterday, someone was reading "how to write a dissertation for dummies". And I did wonder at the time what a dissertation actually was?Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670

What's a "hosted project in groups"?0

I believe it is a project that is done in conjunction with a company. Although that could be totally wrong.0

I assume it is the above...
I did a 'Group Design Project' as part of my undergraduate masters degree (4th year - masters year) despite doing a dissertation in the third year and an Individual Research Project in the fourth.
I found that the project was held in high stead with recruiters because it can show that you can work effectively in a team. Remember to share the work based on your individual skill set and interests. E.g. If you want to be a project manager, it is good to be the one organising the deadlines and performing tasks such as risk assessment etc.0 -

I assumed it must be something like this, but - in groups?0 -
I honestly have no idea, to be honest. I could see it working more with lab-based courses, but I'm pretty sure the OP isn't doing one.
I, personally, would always take the dissertation. It really is one of the only substantial pieces of work that is completely individual. You do group work throughout your degree.
OP, you should have access to some sort of grading criteria which should tell you what is expected in order to get each grade.0 -
I am doing a Final Year Project. As my degree is more practical than theory. Although I do have to write a minimum of 12k in my report whilst also doing the actual program.
Starting very slowly though....0 -
I work in a University and find that there are more problems with group work work than anything else. The final mark awarded is based on the work of the group as a whole which means that if one of the members does little work they will still get the same marks as the other two.
If the work is a "live" project it should be more beneficial than a desk based project.0 -
yes, they are projects, we have to bid to 3 different companies and they pick which team they want to use. *fingers crossed we actually get one* No idea what the projects are yet, they haven't been comfirmed.
Theres 3 of us in my group, all in there are 8 groups, so we need 8 different projects really. Have been told the company give us 50% of our mark, and the uni give us 50% as well. All in there is a group presentation to be done infront of uni and company and an individual report to be handed into the uni, so they can give feedback then we can change them before handing them to the company.
I hopt that all makes sense...oh and i'm doing tourism btw.0
