I'm a sad b*gg*er, but I don't mind Junk mail. If I'm not interested I rip it up.
if it comes with a pre-paid reply envelope just stick it back in the post with a note saying NO THANK YOU see how they like junk mail:rotfl:
  • Not worth the worry, just recycle!
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
  • About 78,000 metric tons of junk mail ended up in landfill sites last year.

It's immensely important for both the environment and for the council tax that we try and cut that down….

Regarding MPS, or any of the above methods of stopping junk mail for that matter:

All direct mailers are obliged by law to check the databases against these lists before they send out unsolicited mail, and any breach can cost them thousands of pounds. It takes a couple of months to fully take effect, but once registered you should find you only receive mail that you've asked for, from companies you have a relationship with already, or if you sign up for something else and forget to tick the "don't mail me" option, which is by law always on a form somewhere these days if there's a chance they'll use or sell on your data.

If you still get junk after this, then feel free to complain and/or send the stuff back to them!

Part of the Furniture 500 Posts I've been Money Tipped!
I have done the aforementioned and it has cut the junk down.

However this doesn't stop the local pizza palour/indian/supermarket etc. from delivering their leaflet through your door.

I am amazed at the amount of trips I make out the front door to the recycling bin with all this rubbish. I will really resent it if I am expected to pay for rubbish collection that they keep threatening.

One little tip though for the really frugal. All those pre-paid envelopes that come with junk mail. If you are careful you can undo them, turn them inside out re-stick and use them as proper envelopes. Also all those bits of paper that come with the envelopes you can use for scrap paper.
  • Any junk mail that I did not request or want gets sent back to them usingone of their own envelopes.
If they don't send an envelope it goes to recycle box (with name and address removed of course).
Any post to the occupier goes straight back into the post box so they can deal with it again!!
  • If it was delivered by Royal Mail, I just lob it back in the post box. I don't see why my local authority should pay to collect the litter that RM have dropped on my doormat.
There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't

In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice

I agree with sending stuff back to the company using their own envelopes then they have to pay more (make sure it's over 5mm thick too!!). Recycling is good too.

Don't waste your time stuffing things in post boxes. Would you blame BT if you received a sales call? All you are doing is giving the underpaid postie more work to do. It won't stop you receiving door-to-door stuff, at best it will delay someone elses mail and end up costing us (the customers) more. You should be protesting against the people that send it not deliver it.

RM only deliver 25% of door-to-door items and if they don't do it some German, Dutch or American company will do it instead and be less accountable.

Registering with mps will not stop the junk mail, this is a Royal Mail hoax, to stop the Royal Mail "Door Drops" the true junk, all the unaddressed stuff go to https://www.myletterbox.co.uk you can stop it here is just a few seconds. Good luck, Peter.

I would not use the myletterbox website, may stop some but you will get more junk mail and phone calls.

Just use the official mailing preference service : http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/mps_choosetype.html
    and the royal mail one.

Also be wary of which companies you provide your details to, by requesting freebies you are also agreeing to receive marketing mail from that company (or their group of companies and whoever else they supply it to), and this will not be stopped by the mailing preference service as you have shown an interest/opted in to being contacted.

Check the privacy terms http://www.myletterbox.co.uk/privacy.php :

Please indicate your preferred method of contact by ticking the relevant boxes , located on the MyLetterbox page. Your data may be provided to clients of MyLetterbox.co.uk to be appended to information they already hold about you for the purpose of contacting you with information about their products and services in which you have expressed an interest.
  • Two attempts at sending the forms to their "opt out" address have failed to stop the unaddressed stuff. Now I just send it back to them at Customer Services, Royal Mail, Freepost, RM1 1AA.

Do you tell them why you are sending it back? Contact customer services and tell them that you have opted out but you are still receiving it.
