Mobility and Attendance Benefits

JamesPeter wrote: »Hello Again,
Firstly on behalf of my wife and I, may I say thank you, thank you all very much for your very kind assistance and sorry to have put you to any trouble.
I think what with the news this morning about the fines then what the Warden told us, it got us quite panicky in case we were somehow claiming things we were not entitled to.
Fortunately my wife found the telephone number and has been speaking to Blackpool and we have been reassured all is in order and we can keep both the mobility and attendance benefits. We didn't realise there were two different mobilities benefits. The system does seem overly complex though and not easy to understand .
Fortunately in our case we are all in order and can breathe a very very big sigh of relief.
Again, our heartfelt thanks.
God Bless you all.
James
I am not sure that what you have been told is correct.
If you applied for DLA mobility before you were 65 then you are entitled to receive it. If you applied after you were 65 you are not entitled to receive it.0 -
i know there is a mobility componant within certain war pensions, but people receiving AA are not eligible for a mobility componant of DLA.
you refer to this benefit just as 'mobility', but who has awarded you this benefit? what department has issued it?0 -
There appears to be a real problem as the OP continues to use "mobility benefit" and "attendance" rather than the correct benefit names.
Until the Forum members know exactly which benefit's JamesPeter is getting and bearing mind the his lack of clarity could well have lead to a similar confusion with Blackpool Office, there does seem to be strong case to worry that he is in receipt of a benefit that he is not entitled to claim or receive.0 -
Hello again,
My apologies for any confusion I may have caused. Until today both myself and my wife were not aware there were two differing mobility allowances. I thought there was only one as I have never ever claimed anything mobility wise (I didn't know they existed). Also my sincere apologies if I do not use correct benefit titles - this is all new to me.
Anyway, when we moved inot the sheltered housing nearly three years ago, the manager filled out the application form for my attendance benefit.
When I was recently visited by the welfare officer from the veterans agency he said I should be receving mobility allowance. It was all dealt with by the welfare officer from Newcastle. He said I should have claimed it many years ago, but anyway thats by the by.
Thank you all anyway.
God bless0 -
James - if you can post the exact wording of the two benefits it would help a lot.
People over 65 can't claim DLA mobility. As far as I know, you can't claim it retrospectively.0 -
Mojisola,
Right, I have four of the award letters here:
The first says Department of Work and Pensions and refers to Attendance Allowance.
The second, also Department of Work and Pensions is addressed to my wife and relates to Carers Allowance.
The third to me is from the Veterans Agency regarding my War Pension.
The fourth is from The Pension Service regarding my state pension.
Unfortunately I do not have the Mobility award letter at this time. In order to apply for a parking badge, I had to send the original letter to the council so that I could qualify for the badge without having to endure a medical.
I have just noticed that on the free RAC and AA membership card I also received it does say Vererans Free Membership card if that makes it any clearer.
Thank you in advance.

James, do you recall, or is it on your bank statement if the benefit is already in payment, how much of this mobility benefit you're being paid?
I'm really struggling to think of a "mobility benefit" that would be paid, as a new claim, to someone aged over 65. The thory is that everyone of that age will have some sort of mobility issues
sorry

James - attendance allowance and war pensions mobility aren't counted as income for income based benefits you receive. However, if you receive an income based benefit (such as pension credit) you'll get additional money on top.
http://www.benefitsnow.co.uk/pc/index.asp gives more information about pension credit. Near the bottom of the page explains about premiums.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I've just found something called the "War Pensions Mobility Supplement". This is one of the benefits that can entitle you to a blue badge

Might it be that, James?:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

That looks really promising, Penelope. Let's hope that's it.
If it is, James gets to keep the money and we've all learnt something new!0
