hijackthis problems

im trying to run hijack this on my wifes laptop,but im getting this message...
for some reason your system denied write access to the host file.if any hijacked domains are in this file,hijackthis may not be able to fix this.
if this happens you need to edit the file yourself.to do this click start run and type,
notepadC/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts.
and press enter,find the lines hijackthis reports and delete them.
save the file as hosts,(with quotes)and reboot.
for vista simply exit hijackthis,right click on the hijackthis icon,choose run as administrator.............

The "system denied writes access" is normal when using HijackThis and other tools on Vista/Windows 7 due to the restrictions imposed by the Users Access Control (UAC). The HOSTS file is being protected. There is no need to worry about it and you can ignore the message when there is no evidence of malware infection.

Just run HijackThis

ok,when i run hijackthis i get that message half way through the scan,i press ok then it finishes scan,when i press save this log and it opens up a blank note pad page...i cant right click to copy and paste,am i doing something wrong?i am used to xp on my pc i dont like vista.

On main menu at start of HijackThis, click Do a system scan and save a log file

done that,it brings up a blank page,the heading at the top says..untitled-notepad.
im ready for giving up with this laptop.
