O2 Iphone 3GS Dilema

Im currently over 12 months through my 24 month 02 Iphone 3GS 16gb contract and have found myself in a bit of a pickle.

I originally had O2 insurance for £10 a month but cancelled it due to my excess goind up from £20 to £100!!!!

A month after my insurance was cancelled I dropped my phone and cracked my screen quite badly but not enought to render the phone useless. Little did I know the phone would get increasingly unstable and unreliable (signal/wifi dissappearing completely and freezing)

Just clicked to update to the new 4.1 OS via Itunes and it has succesfully bricked my phone. It says its in recovery mode and needs restoring. I click to do this and it gets to 99% done and says it has encountered an error (1013 to be precise)

The phone is useless and my warranty has expired according to Apple Support website.

So basically I have no working mobile phone and an Apple branded paperwieght untill I can upgrade in 10 months time.

Im due to travel with the RAF to Spain for four weeks very soon and have no way to contact my Son and Girlfriend

Does anybody know what/if anything I can do?

im not sure about the brocking but have you gone into an apple shop to see what they say

they might fix it for a charge
    What goes around-comes around
  • the thing is I feel that as I tried to update the phone with Itunes and it bricked, its Apple`s fault andI refuse to pay for a repair.

Im due to fly to Spain on the 3rd Nov so I also doubt the repair would be done before then.

But you tried to update a damage phone, so I'd think they'd claim that was why it was bricked. If it was getting iffy with other functions it sounds like something was amiss (maybe memory or cpu access).

I can't see you getting anywhere with that argument, sorry. . .
  • I have a funny feeling you may be right.

The closest Apple store is about 40 miles away so its not even worth the dissapointment.

cant really afford to get it repaired and I dont think it will be cheap anyways.

Oh well. No phone for 10 months. :T

why not use the money you have saved in insurance premiums to buy another handset to use for the next 10 months

  • Sell it on ebay as faulty. They seem to go pretty well and are being sold from anything for £30 up to £200!

If you downgrade the OS - take it to a Apple store who usually replace with a refurb for a nominal fee for cracked/broken screens.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • Took it to my friendly O2 shop and the guy recommended a cheap back street shop to fix my screen and he took my phone into the back of the shop and diagnosed my fault for free. He recommended downloading the earliest firmware for the 3GS and recovering the phone with that.

Voila! One fixed for for free!

maybe a couple of quid to fix the screen too
