I think you need software that actually uses the GPU to do some of processing work instead of just the CPU.
So instead of the CPU doing everything and the GPU having a rest both the CPU and GPU are used. When I mean GPU I mean the graphics card!!
I think ATI's version(AVIVO) is free whereas with Nvidia's version(Purevideo) you need to buy the software.
When I have a bit more time I will have a better look!0 -
Ok cheers for this info mate. Would you recommend I buy one of the above systems for now and then upgrade to one of these graphics cards? Or shall I try and find a system with one of these cards preinstalled?0

If you really need a decent system now get one but realise that MS Vista is around the corner. However the last system I specified will run it no problems(well it better do!!).
Towards the middle to end of next year the lower cost Directx10 cards will come out. I assume that they will have refined the AVIVO and PureVideo technologies further by then!0 -
