Looking for a powerful pc...

Hiya fellas I'm looking for a good pc that can deal with converting and burning movies easily and gaming every now and then. For this I think I'll need a pretty strong processor and was wondering if some of you more advanced guys could help me look around please. I have about 500/600 quid. Cheers guys.

AMD and Intel due core are good so are single cores ,they are all good ,you can build your own for about 600 put say you need a pretty strong processor for burning discs inc converting ,
    some thing like
Intel Pentium D 930 (BX80553930) Dual Core 3.00GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2 GHz Socket AM2 L2 1 MBor a single core or you can buy one built like these http://www.meshcomputers.com/VIEW%20ALL%20DESKTOPS.ASPX..
you can do what you want to do with any pc with in an hour now a days
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

If you're building your own go for a Intel core2duo, they are honestly worth the extra money over a pentium or athlon.

    I'd say something like...
    core2duo 6300
    1gb ram
    GF7300GT graphics
    MSI Neo7 965p mobo

That should be a flier and probably come in just under £600 with a 19" TFT.

I noticed in the newsagents this morning that the latest issue of Computer Buyer has a group test of £599 dual core processor models. Couldn't have a quick look as it was in a sealed bag, so don't know what the rest of their specs are.

Might be worth having a look, as review models tend to have a higher spec than usual for the price to help boost their rating.

I noticed from the cover photo that one was a Mesh, and looking on the Mesh website, it appears that their one was the Best Buy, but it must have been a test of bases only (no monitor).

The 7600GT is a budget gaming card and if you want to play at high resolutions and detail settings a 7900GS or X1950pro would be a better bet.

However if you want to play Directx10 games next year you will need MS Vista and a Directx10 graphics card so it would be better to save up for this over getting a better graphics card at the moment!! Don't worry as native Directx10 games will only probably become more common at the end of next year when more budget Directx10 hardware is released. In the next month or some Nvidia will release their first Directx10 card it may cost well over 400 quid alone!!
