I do agree about the violent protests, but of the thousands of people who demonstrated yesterday under 20 were arrested.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

There's an updated arrest count on the Guardian that covers the aftermath of the protest that brings it up to 150, but the majority of protesters have been peaceful - they seem to understand that violence spoils the message they're sending.Organised Birthdays and Christmas: Spend So Far: £193.75; Saved from RRP £963.76

^ What everyone else said.
I do think far too many people go to Uni now, because they don't really know what else to do and see it as an excuse to bum around for a few more years before joining the real world.
Of my friends/family who have gone to Uni from school, none are working in the field that they got degrees for. One cousin has a degree in Russian which comes in really handy working for the NHS in Cheshire.
My Uncle is the only one I can think of, but he did Open Uni when he was 30+ and had finally decided on a career. I also have a couple of friends who are now at Uni in their 30's because again, they've now decided on a career. I don't think many people really know what they want to do at 18 years old.

They gave us a generic "go home before you think it will be unsafe" email at work, which is ANNOYING because then it leaves the judgment up to you and means I can never get away with leaving, since I have a 2 minute walk
. But it did say no walking in the dark, so I'm thinking that means 4pm at the latest, right?
And it all the hub-bub of trying to see if DH could drive out, I forgot to bring my morning snack so now I'm marvin' and have no change for a snack from the canteen downstairs. Whinge whinge.

Morning everyone.
I'm really enjoying the photos - keep 'em coming please! Tahlie looks gorgeous in that pic on the sledge, and Bruno's E looks really grown-up (I'm having trouble imagining F getting that big!), though I have to admit the nipple-gate saga made me smile - after I read that he was ok, of course.
3 - nice to have you back.
Re the student protest, I disagree obviously with the violence, but I do feel sorry for the students too. In the USA they may charge a fortune for their degrees, but parents are aware of that and can save from birth, here we've gone from a free education to a hugely expensive one in what's relatively only a few years. I do agree however, that there are a ridiculous number of students studying degrees in subjects where there will only be a few jobs - why can't they limit places on certain courses so that this better reflects the job market? When I was at uni, we had a lot of students studying zoology - I don't think I know of any that went to work in that field, as a result there were people with zoological degrees working in call centres etc - surely that doesn't make sense?Working hard in the hopes of being 'lucky'
