I have a question - to parents of older kids.
What age did you first leave your kids at home alone. I don't mean all night or anything, but say if you were going to nip the shop or something.Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.0 -

Different with every child, sorry. I would say Secondary School age. Erin would be soon. She has just been allowed down town with her friends, she's 11 in March. However, DS was older. I don't think boys are always as sensible. Ben's road sense is not as good as Erin's was at his age. :cool:Too many children, too little time!!!0 -
Thanks Tara...
We keep having 'debates' with ds1 as he 'thinks' he is old enough to go hanging round on the streets and old enough to stay at home on his own etc.... It is doing my nut in! He has a friend who is a year younger than he is and this kid is allowed to go roaming round the streets, hangs around the local shops and apparantly goes home alone when his mum is in work.... So he thinks he should be allowed! He will be 10 in 11days....I don't think he is sensible enough but was wondering if I was just being an overprotective parent.Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

my shop is 2 doors away lol but if we were nipping to the shop up the hill or close by we would leave the bigger 2 (8&10 next week) but i feel they are responsible enough for us to do this.
Im thinking but still lost hahaha!!What's for you won't go past you0 -

Doesn't sound a good idea to me, but that's just my opinion. Also, our 'town' is hardly what most people are used to. She's been allowed down in preperation for going 'big' school on her own. And only with friends. But it's probably smaller tham some villages.Too many children, too little time!!!0 -
we are lucky that our kids can go out to play here and they go out quite a lot, they have a little more freedom with it being a quiet village and anything always gets back to you lol! if we lived in the town they wouldnt have the same freedom. What's for you won't go past you0

I walked to school by myself (5 minutes, across one road with a zebra crossing) from age 8 I think. ETA: Not home alone, though.
So relieved to hear about Amber - I bet Tia must be SO desperate to get them both home again thoughwhat an ordeal.
Idiot child continued to refuse his nap, then demanded a snack - I put him in highchair with some crackers and a yogurt, came back 3 minutes later and he'd fallen asleep... didn't even wake being moved to bed. But I can't let him sleep too long starting this late in the day!
OH still sleeps, and doctor still hasn't called.... sigh!0
