Considering upgrade to Sky + Multi room

I live with my parents, at the moment we have 2 Sky boxes in our house. I got my parents upgraded to Sky + last year and I had their old basic Sky box in my room on multi room. Parents on full Sky package.

I'd really like a SKY + box myself as my dvd recorder is freeview as is my tv, the reception on freeview has been getting worse here - last week was awful but gather that was weather related. Does seem ok again now.

Does anyone know how much Sky charge for a new 2nd Sky+ box and fitting? Out of 12 month multi room contract now.

I could look to buy one off ebay but am not a tech minded person so would need to pay a company to fit it all.

Currently I can watch Sky but not record off it - last person who looked at it said i could either record off Sky or Freeview only so stuck to Freeview.

I imagine with the digital change over a year away here the signal might be hit and miss.

Is it possible to run 1 tv with the freeview dvd recorder and a Sky+ box?

Parents tv is old and one of the bulky ones - know eventually they want an HD, LCD one but Dad does not want Sky HD.

Thanks for any replies and hope I make sense!!

No installation is required. You just unplug the old box, plug in the new one. Swap the viewing card over and call Sky up to pair the card to the new box. No 'tech' is required. Presumably you already have a twin feed in place, which is what your Sky+ set up requires in order to view one channel while watching another. if you need additional cabling or a new LNB then just get a local installer to do it.
Yes, you can feed one TV with both Sky and Freeview input if you have suficient connectors on the TV.

    Cost me nothing.

I had the feed in place to the bedroom for basic sky with the sky + downstairs.

However I had been using BT vision in the bedroom for a number of years, so offered Sky the chance to give me multi room .

Free box and instal followed (after some discussions and threats to downgrade)

OP only has a Sky box in his room - it's his parents who have the Sky+ box.

He will need another cable from the LNB to his room.

Thanks, Yes I have the old Sky box in my room - think I'll see if I can talk Sky into anything if not will get a Sky+ box - friends parents might have one spare possibly, can get someone local out to set it up and put the extra lead in.

We have been with Sky for years and are on the full deal as Dad likes his sports. Will see if I can get anywhere with them.

At the mo my Freeview is back to normal but if it keeps going off I know I'll get tempted by Sky +
