Smart phone - San Francisco - I have forgot unlock pattern

Okay, I bought a new smart phone today. It was my first and unlocked it straight away to be able to use my Tesco sim card (it had been locked to Orange)
Anyway, I have messed about with it and managed to put a pattern lock on which I now cant remember. I have not registered any kind of gmail account which I have been reading as a possible solution and have not a clue as to how I am going to be able to get back into the phone.
How would I reset the phone and would this be a problem seeing as I have had the phone unlocked with a code I bought off internet.
PLEASE HELP.
