My Home Computer died for no Reason!!!

I was browsing a website (was a childrens site) and all of a sudden my PC said it had an error and would have to shut down.. I thought OK I would re-boot and see what happens but now I get a message everytime I switch it on saying the following:-

STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Sessuib Manager Initilization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of oxc000026c (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

   Sounds horrific doesn't it?

  • Doesnt sound good. Have you got a local computer shop close to you? If you have then I would take it there as hopefully they should be able to save what you have on there and then get it up and running again.

Can you boot into safe mode and do a system restore? It may be that an update has gone wrong (again)

I have been using a local company (a one man band) for a couple of years now but last time he came round he !!!!ed me off so I'd have to find someone new. It does sound serious though doesn't it? I have done absolutely nothing dodgy to deserve to loose everything... the PC is less than a year old aswell. (not that that means anything I guess).

To get into safe mode, hit F8 at bootup.

if safe mode doesn't work, try booting from the windows CD, go into recovery console, and do

    chkdsk c: /F/R

and when you get it working again, you might want to use this expresso find, which is free if you grab it in the next week.

    Sorry,

If your computer is running Windows XP

    1. Turn on computer

    2. As the computer starts, watch for a progress bar at the bottom of the screen. press F8 about once every second.

    3. Immediately press F8 before the progress bar reaches the right side of the screen.

    4. From the Windows Start-up menu, highlight Safe Mode and press Enter.

    5. Wait for your desktop to appear, and then follow this for system restore.

It's worth mentioning that if you've installed a program lately, it may be the culprit. Also memory can cause that sort of crash.
    But try the restore first.

Have you updated to the most recent service packs for Internet Explorer and Windows XP ever. This problem was fixed in one of the service packs(can't remember which).

Hello, I tried the F8 and managed to highlight the option to start in safe mode but it went back to the message as above! so then I opted to 'start Windows normally' but again, it went to the message :o

I am wondering if I'll have to re-set the whole thing with a disk but can't find a set up disc - I know, I am useless aren't I? :o is it worth trying a differnt way of starting ie: reboot, or any of the other options?
