Check on goofbay to see what they have brought. If they have been buying lots of high value items e.g. laptops, designer clothes the chances are it is a stolen card, and the card holder wants his/her money back for stuff he/she never wanted.

Did you transfer the money to your bank account before the dispute was raised? Because I remember reading about a seller who got scammed with a designer clothes sale (buyer swapped item for a fake), and paypal tried to enforce debt collectors to recover the money. However, the seller ignored the debt collectors and eventually kept the money. Although I imagine that paypal's debt collectors aren't particularly nice, so this approach is only for the very brave!
  • From an old thread:
I've just had a buyer claim a chargeback for fraudulent use of her card. I added a scan of the CoP to the claim page in PayPal and nine days later they gave me the money back. In those nine days though, I did send them two emails reminding them that the CoP invokes their own seller protection and so could they hurry it up please. ;)

I've highlighted the important bit! Email PayPal and remind them that you have given them tracking information that is sufficient to invoke their seller protection and you'd like the money back sooner rather than later.

Proof of tracking/delivery is not sufficient to defend a chargeback in this instance.

The only way it can be won by the OP is either with a COP or as bob suggests but only if the SD print shows the date the item was posted and the address (post code and house name).

Any amount of tracking showing delivery is not an option.

The op is trying to invoke seller protection, so the points to prove are:
That it was posted within 7 days, that it is eligible and that it went to the address in Paypal. The COP shows the date and address which is why they ask for it. Tracking does not, but the tracking manifest may, and they may accept it, but that is not definite.

Op if you do not have the cop, then do as bob says and get the SD manifest. Fax or scan this to paypal to be attached to the dispute.
  • hi, i have been to the post office this morning and was told i cannot get a copy of the original proof of postage but they have given me a print out from their own records that states the date the parcel was recieved by the post office and the tracking number.
This print out is signed by the postman who picked up the parcels from them,
Will this be enough or am i back to square 1 ???
Surely this proves i posted it, the tracking proves he recieved it,
im feeling more and more stressed out !!!
would it be worth phoning Royal Mail for help?
    thanks ,

Does it have the address on? If not, write the address on yourself if there is room.

Don't question anything, just fax or scan it and attach it to the dispute in Paypal. Tracking is not the issue, do not get confused by that. You are claiming under seller protection.

I remember on here, someone posted that they had lost an unauthorised transaction case because the seller's COP with the postcode and house number was written in ink, and not typed up on the computer.
Are you saying that Paypal won't accept the paper-and-ink Certificate of Posting (you know, the ones on pads) which you fill in yourself and the PO sign and stamp?!

I don't lose a great deal but i've never had an issue with claiming using a certificate from one of those pads. I pre stamp all my items and just fill those out every day and the sorting office stamp them all, 10 addresses on a single form.

I don't think this will be of any help as this is just the form that proves that the post office staff have passed the special delivery parcels to the postman it has no addresses on it and could be for any parcel.

Also those printouts arnt supposed to leave the office.... could be an issue for the counter clerk if Royal Mail find out.

This is the perfect cop. I still use them, despite having a business collection. I have a system where my 'do' supply a cop retrospectively, should I need it. This system is probably against RM rules, but I do not abuse it and haven't had the need for one in nearly 12 months.

Yes because they claimed that the seller could have writte the house no. and postcode on them selves. On of my PO's just gives me a receipt and tells us to write the house no. and postcode, so I would lose an unauthorised transaction case.
