During the summer I had all new rads put on and had not used the c/h up to now. The boiler has been on for the hot water. It's not a combi boiler but one with stored hot water tank. Yesterday was the first time I've had the heating on and all was ok.
This morning it was ok too, however the boiler came on a 5 and what a din! the noise through the rads was horrendous. I thought it might be trapped wind so to speak and went round and bled the rads. They were all ok though. But the noise was coming from the boiler?
I turned the boiler off, the c/h off and then switched the boiler back on again. It made a bit of a noise but not as bad as before.
I called a friend round to see what he thought and he checked the header tank had water in it - which it does.
He turned the boiler back on and it's not making a noise any more. He thought it might have been a bit of crap caught in the system.
Do you think that's what it could have been?

An airlock possibly?0

Could be a gravity hot water system which only uses the pump for central heating and not hot water...very common for this type of system to have a sticking pump when you first come to use the heating in the winter.0
