Working Tax Credits

Hi,

New user here asking for a bit of advice..?

I earn £1123.?? a month (after tax - before tax yearly its £17000) I have been told by various people as I live on my own, in my private accommodation I am able to claim this. I am 25 by the way.

Any ways I checked online and it says I am eligble to claim but its says I will receive £0.00. I don't understand this...

My friend who lives on his own also receives WTC (hope thats right) and he earns more money then I do, so how does that work?

the cutoff for working tax credits for a single person is around £13k, however tax credits are normally initially calculated on the earnings from the year before so it may well be that your friend earnt below the threshold last year

I`m interested in the answer to this...I claim WTC but have no idea how they work it out! I put my claim in based on yearly average profits, not monthly, and did so by paper (I make a lot less than you btw ) and it was difficult as by the nature of my work, what I make is erratic.

  • I was a student last year who worked part time generally. I think if am correct I earned less then 13k last year so dont understand how I do not qualify (if its based on last year?)

Because you were a student firstly... then other rules beyond that.
  • So I can't claim due to me being a ex student...? Our system is crazzyyy... my friend earns 4 grand more then me a year and receives £300 on top of that a month in WTC and I can't get nothing !! lol.

You need to work 30 hours per week if you're not disabled or don't have a child for whom you receive child benefit for.
