Changing Sky package/31 days notice

Hi,
I've currently got Sky+ with 4 mixes, and I've been thinking about adding the sports package for a while. Basically, I don't think I would watch it often, but I am a Sunderland supporter with a season ticket - I attend home games but not away games. We have three away games on Sky over a 30 day period (Mon 18th, Sun 31st, Sun 14th). If I were to add the sports package tomorrow, could I then call back on Monday and give my 31 days notice, keeping the sports channels for the three games I want to see but not having to pay for it for any longer than that? Is that the best way to do it (other than going to the pub which is what I would usually do but with 3 games in a month thought I'd do it another way).
Is that even how it works? We've only been with Sky since June and haven't added anything to our package in that time so I've never done anything like this before!

I don't know if there's a better way, but I did exactly that a few days ago. I ordered it all online and then cancelled the next day over the phone and have the month to watch the sports channels. All fairly painless.0

I decided to bin the sports channel when my subscription went up yet again....we have a good local footie club I can watch games, and being a Liverpool fan it's losing it's appeal anyway

Rang Sky to cancel the sports bit and they ended up giving me 6 months for the full package at a reduced rate so I'm now paying £8/month less than I was before the price rise....and given the shocking performance I sat through this afternoon I'm bloody glad I'm paying less for it!0 -
Thanks for the advice! I'm going to give it a go - if they offer me something to keep it on I'll consider it but otherwise I'll be cancelling tomorrow leaving me a month to watch my matches.
