The Best Own Store Brand Strong White Flour?

Comments

  • I popped into my local Waitrose today; the price of their Essentials White Bread Flour is now £1.29! I know the current adverts say they'll pricematch Tesco, but this is ridiculous.:) It is now more expensive than their Essentials Wholemeal Bread Flour.

My local Sainsburys still has their own brand bread flour at 60p.
  • on 17th Oct Tesco was selling Hovis white bread flour at 99p(cheaper than their own brand stuff at the inflated £1.29)...and now today they've already increased the Hovis one to £1.29 too :(
Morrisons own brand was still 60p for 1.5kg yesterday.

    Hi
I used to buy Costco white bread flour - comes in huge bags but works out very reasonable. Its Canadian wheat - good strong flour. Havent bought in a while since there are only 2 of us and its a problem storing it but I do know it gives very good results and they do still sell it. Worth a try if you make alot of bread !
    :j

Any idea how much it costs and do they have it regularly? I went back to Waitrose to get some more flour and was annoyed to see they've put it up to £1.29.

Hi I bought Asda's own brand 1.5kg bag of strong white flour for 50p because Tesco shot the price of theirs up to a shocking £1.29  I used the Asda flour yesterday and this morning but the bread is so heavy and didn't rise very much, I use a panasonic 255 breadmaker.

I bought 8 bags of this flour but I'm returning it today so what own store brand bread flour do you use? I've never used Sainsburys or Waitrose. I would be very grateful for your opinions :)

I had this exact situation last night with my Panny 255 and Asda flour! So glad I spotted your post as I thought it must be the flour.

I went to Lidl and bought a bag for 50p, the bread was the same as Asda. I won't be buying it again. I went to Sainsburys and paid 67p and Morrisons I paid 60p, I'll try them tomorrow. Why did Tesco have to go and bump the price of theirs up :rotfl:

Sorry SmallFry, but the Lidl & Asda flours work just fine in my Panny 251. Perhaps the problem is elsewhere?
