  • I have given up getting these.

Unless you get to the WHSmith when they open you will not get one.Toys r Us stock is gone quickly as well. I probably spent the best part of £3 in one day last time they were out in the cost of the paper and fuel to try to get the toy.

My sone wont know they are out plus he has loads of lego as it is as.

I have decided to do what this forum is about...save money buy not getting somethng we can live without.

there great if you can get them at the store when you buy the paper, i saved the tokens last year as we live about 20 miles from any store. Worth the £8.99 postage. I arent bothering with them this year.

Bear in mind these are highly collectable items, a lot of people buy the sets and sell them on to american buyers for a big profit.

I only buy the paper in WHSmith (theres one I can pull up outside and run in to) if they've got stock so I ask before I part with my money for a paper I don't want. And most of the time they've got them.

Best bet is to go to the motorway service WHSmiths and keep your old tokens on you as sometimes they have excess stock they are happy to hand over.

And I do buy 2 copies of the paper because I have 2 kids who want them. I don't see theres a crime in that.

I have been lucky so far. We live very close to a super-small WH Smith, and about 3-4 miles away from a large one on a retail park. Yesterday I had totally forgotten about the Lego until about 3pm when I suddenly remembered and dashed up to our local Smiths. They seemed to have plenty of Lego left so I got one no problem. Today, our little Smiths is closed cos it's Sunday, so I went straight to the retail park first thing, got there about 10:30 and of course the flippin' shops didn't open till 11am. Killed half an hour then got back to Smiths dead on 11, only to find a huge queue of people waiting at the door and inside! There must easily have been 30 people in front of us if not more, all buying Sunday Mirrors, and all getting the Lego... my poor son was almost dancing up and down saying "they'll all be gone!!" But it looked as though there was a huge brown box behind the counter filled with the Lego, I would have thought there were a few hundred packs in the box from the size of it.

Anyway... Ms Moneypenny, that is interesting what you said about non-Sunday-opening stores having the Sunday sets available on a Monday... would that be true for ALL the smaller stores do you think? Not that we need one now, but my sister in law missed out today so I could point her in the direction of the smaller shop in the morning?

I've just read the terms and conditions and it definitely states that if you can't redeem the voucher with the sunday mirror it will be available on the following monday. Our town whsmiths was not open today so I'm going there first thing tomorrow and am hoping they have them.

A lot of people are lego mad and you cant buy these you can only get them via collecting tokens, so american/worldwide lego fanatics pay big money to have these in their collection as there not available over there for them to be able to buy.

(at last we get something that the americans havent got or done 1st)

In fact im sure I read it one here that a guy collected 30 sets of tokens and got them all delivered, and sold them all for £30 - £40 a set to americans, he even posted a picture of the delivery he recieved.

    Made himself a nice profit.

  • Thanks our local WHS honoured the Sunday closing and we got both toys this morning (even though we hadn't bought the Sunday paper as we knew we couldn't redeem) Very nice surprise :)
