It does depend on what sort of tourist you are.. Personally, whilst Olu Deniz is clearly beautiful, I found it pretty horrific in the way it catered for the full-English-breakfast-and-beer type crowds. We stayed in a teeny local hotel in Ovacik (Balkaya Hotel - very cheap and surprisingly lovely despite the Tripadvisor reviews) and were very thankful to be able to escape from all the Brits.
I would definitely recommend the general Fethiye area, though - all the locals we met (including shopkeepers) were incredibly friendly and welcoming. And Pamukkale is a must-see. Just make sure you swim in the thermal pool, which is really lovely.0 -
Icmeler is very nice, but if you want to go sightseeing IMO dont go in the height of summer. Marmaris is very touristy and although has some nice bits, I think it is too big and tacky.0

I went to marmaris and it is very busy & touristy there...nearby icmeler is nice to escape to for a day out, you can get buses or water taxis there...it is a hassle every time u go out, the shopkeepers will always try to get you in their shops. All you can do is be firm and say no...failing that walk on the side of road with no shops?! lol:happyhear0

Depends what type of holidays you usually like. I love some parts of Turkey but not others. Some areas are very touristy and have increased in tourism massively in the last decade or two.
You need to type Review into google followed by the name of your accommodation and the area name. Lots of review websites will come up - previous customers have left their reviews. You have to learn to read between the lines, work out what type of family or person has written that review (young, old, family etc). You will always get one or two whingers even in the most amazing places but if the majority of reviews are negative then avoid at all costs.
Hope this helps.

Some resorts are touristy, but the resorts are fairly spread out along the coast and there is definitely something for everyone in Turkey. I've mainly stayed in the resorts accessible from Dalaman, ie Dalyan, Calis Beach and Fethiye. Fethiye is great, a proper working town with a nice harbour front and lots of things to do and see in the area.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
go to turkey it is one of the best places! marmaris at the beginning of the season is good because it is not busy. markets in turkey are a thing to see but be brave because they will try and sell you everything but if you like bartering then you will get some good bargains. iclemar is nice as well.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
