Exactly, they can't compile a CV and are expected to apply for jobs online. In fact they are expected to apply for everything on line, which is really difficult if you are functionally illiterate. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Fair enough, my assumption was based on the lines being an equal size and for a low number of items I can see the sense (though personally I'd still use the human-being).Shakethedisease wrote: »I'm a wee bit lost by this comment? I use self-service a lot, but only because the queues at the tills are so big and waiting to beep through 3 items is far easier and MUCH quicker at the self-service ones. Wouldn't do it for a trolley full though.
Agreed!Personally, I can't see exactly why they are paid 20% more. Im my experience the staff at Aldi's/Lidl tend to sling the whole lot through as fast as possible and that's it... complete disregard, disinterest and any sort of inclination to help.
Lidl staff will go and do some shelf-stacking if there is no-one at the tills, and though you may not like them chucking stuff through quicker it does seem to make customers go quicker too (and they're the real bottleneck!). I have never, ever, had someone at the till suggest a BOGOF or other offer to me (possibly because almost everything I buy is on offer! :money:).At least the till's at the other stores have staff offering to help pack etc etc, and are keen to let you know if you've missed offer's and such-like, immediately dispatching someone to get you another steak pie, or whatever was on 2 for 1 that week.
'Productive' doesn't always just mean 'fast'.
I was going to mention this but... is it really cheaper? At the moment probably not because most of the picking is done in-store from the shelves, more labour intensive than having someone at a till. Now an Amazon-type operation could work but much of the stock analysis into Ocado is dubious about its viability versus the likes of Tesco. The big problem with online food shopping for me is the inability to choose fruit & veg or the latest best before date on everything from milk to ready meals.Anyway, it's 'online shopping' that will be the killer for jobs in this area eventually. All that will be needed will be 'pickers' and delivery drivers."The state is the great fiction by which everybody seeks to live at the expense of everybody else." -- Frederic Bastiat, 1848.0 -
They had all the opportunities everyone else had. The education system didnt let them down. They just couldnt be @rsed, and still cant. There are plenty of government courses you can go on to help with illiteracy.vivatifosi wrote: »Exactly, they can't compile a CV and are expected to apply for jobs online. They do realise, but they don't have a choice, whereas we do.
Whenever they invite me to use one, I always say in a very loud voice, "No thanks, even if I do have to wait, I'm not interested in doing (insert name of store) staff out of their jobs."
The reactions I get leave me in no doubt how they feel!

I'm sorry that you just don't get it.
Maybe, you'll yet be blessed with a child who is mentally not quite as quick as the majority. Then, you may begin to appreciate how well the state caters for him/her.*

(a) know
(b) care
(c) act

You can, I believe, if you are using the 'New Look' version of the site.
Go to User CP (Control Panel)
Go into Edit Options
Scroll down to the bottom and select the site version.

Excuse me, but how did parent inaction stop them trying hard and trying to better themselves at school? Or is it actually down to the fact that all these people are lowlives, will never make anything of themselves due to their inherent laziness and complete and utter disregard for authority.I'm sorry that you just don't get it.

And you actually want me to CARE about these people? This is not a state issue. Its their own issue. Nothing is stopping them putting down their crack pipe and going to evening literacy classes, doing NVQ, picking themselves up out of the gutter AND TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for their own actions. Nothing. Except their own innate inability to do anything of use.
Being a bit slow isnt an excuse I am afraid. Life presents challenges. The mark of a decent person is how an individual deals with those challenges. I went to school with plenty of "slower learners", all of which have good, middle class jobs now. Yes, their parents might of helped, but it was their own grit and determination that got them there, no-one else. Making excuses for layabouts is nothing other than the easy way out and the only solution these lazy fekkers can understand. A little bit more tough love is what is required.0 -

If you have a parent who shouts at you "Shut up" every time you say something.
Gives you a whack and tells you to "F*** off" every time you try and ask them for something.
Screams at you for playing because you are making a noise when all you are doing is playing with a wooden spoon or the one toy someone gave you because your parent can't be bothered to buy you toys.
They also sit you in front of the telly and give you some junk food do you really think you are going to be functioning as normal when you go to school?
I know more than one person who has taught in infant schools where the children come in wearing nappies, not being able to eat with cutlery and not being able to talk properly at the age of 4.
So if you are behind when you go to school i.e. can't talk in sentences how long do you think it's going to take you to learn to read?
Remember children the majority of time at home even when they are school age.
Because one reason why people steal and commit crimes is because they are functionally illiterate. And you actually want me to CARE about these people? This is not a state issue. Its their own issue.
Why do you presume these people are on illegal drugs?Nothing is stopping them putting down their crack pipe and going to evening literacy classes, doing NVQ, picking themselves up out of the gutter AND TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for their own actions. and the self service checkouts and self scanning cost the supermarkets a lot of money through unscanned, stolen goods. i nick a load myself and feel justified doing it as i'm doing their job for myself.Martin has asked me to tell you I'm about to cut the cheese, pull my finger.0
