Thanks for your replies and assistance.

Sorry Strider but the OFF button switches the system off. The plus and minus fan control just regulates the fan but thanks for your efforts - btw I have read the manual and owned the car 18 months !!
Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

My OH thinks that havinbg the climate set to 16deg in summer and 31 in winter is normal !!!!!!!..

TBH I usually have my climate set to 16 - I've always liked being freezing when driving though :rotfl:

As for the OFF button - it, as the poster above said, turns the fans etc off in my Laguna II.
  • Er... no you could always leave the window shut. You might experience a rise in humidity inside the cabin but unless the sun is strong or the outside temperature is high it should remain comfortable enough. Just like it did before climate control became 'essential'.

Why the hell would you want to drive about with no ventilation...?

You don't need aircon to ventilate a car. Turn it off and air still comes out the vents. The motoring masses managed quite well without aircon for around a hundred years. I don't remember any stories of motorists suffocating in their cars for the lack of it.

Aircon/climate control uses fuel. If you want to save money, turn it off. If you want to save money when the car doesn't need cooling (most of the year in the UK), turn it off.
  • But the money you save on fuel by not using the aircon, you will spend in the summer getting the aircon fixed when all the system is seized up due to lack of use...

When the word ECO is displayed, the air-con compressor is switched off (which means it is functioning as a standard heater).
Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.

but that is down to personal choice

me personally i leave climate set at a comfortable temp all year round and let it do what it has got to.if it is then i am going to use it and keep the PAG oil circulating so it does not lose all the fridge over winter

you will use more fuel keep turning on and off when you want to demist windows in winter,if you do not want to use A/C to save fuel then best off buying car without A/C as you will use more fuel carrying round the weight of the equipment.

I couldn't agree more. I've had my climate control set to 'auto' for the last 18 years.

Must be rather cold too, I would imagine, specially this time of year!

Climate control is not aircon like you're thinking. It maintains the programmed temperature whether that by 10C or 32C.
