I have the 206 GTi which has climate control - press the OFF button, unit displays the word OFF but it just carries on blowing out the air !!!!
Any suggestions ? Please..... it's driving me mad !!

Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.

Must be rather cold too, I would imagine, specially this time of year!
Could be a relay fault or worse case 'brains' playing up.
Get a fault code reader plugged in and see what it pulls up, that is your starting point!0 -

The fans should stay on!
You have AUTO which keeps the internal temp at the set value by automatically adjusting the fans/heat. It also stops the fans blowing freezing cold air into the car before the engine warms up.
You have OFF which turns off the AUTO, turning it into a regular constant fan speed system in which the heater and fans are adjusted manually.
Finally you have A/C which turns on the aircon compressor to produce air colder than the outside air, also does a great job at demisting!
Perhaps you need to read the manual???“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Looking at strider's picture I'd keep pressing the middle button on the left with the "-" on until it turned the fan off.0

I have the same car and in mine it definately turns off the AC and the blower when you press the OFF button.
If you press the AC button it goes from air conditioning to a normal blower. If you manually reduce the fan using the - button on the left it will all but turn the blower off.0 -
I had a 306, the AUTO function was achieved by turning the blower dial to AUTO, this made the system self regulate the heat/fanspeeds to achieve the set temperature. This is known as "climate control".... The air con is a separate thing all together, this simply creates cold and dehumidified air.
I don't understand why anyone would want to turn it off completely......... Set it to 21 degree's, set it to AUTO and let it do it's job... When it reaches 21 degree's it'll set the blower to minimum speed or off completely.
It never really needs to be out of AUTO mode, it's just when you get an idiot in the car and they turn the temp up to 30 degree's because by some miracle they think it'll warm the car faster!!
Or the other way around in the summer, they smack the aircon on full, set the temp to it's lowest and blast the car with freezing air until they realise their hands are frozen to the steering wheel
Some of these idiots even do this at home with the room thermostat, then open the windows when it gets too hot!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Occasionally an idiot might like to switch it out of auto and turn the aircon off to reduce the fuel consumption.
Just a thought.0 -

maybe you should read a manual and refrain from posting until you have a clue how climate control works.
in auto mode the system will control which vents to open and fan speeds to maintain the temp that has been set on display.
the system can also be used manually.
the off button turns it off all together including the fan,why on earth you would think off would only turn part of the system off is beyond me.
OP i would suspect the panel is at fault seen similar on omega's/vectra's previously, does the fan speed change ok when in auto to keep desired temp and also when giving manual fan speed commands?
you could try removing the fuse for HVAC and see if that resets the system alternatively you could leave well alone so long as fan speed can be controlled and it goes off when ignition is turned off.0 -

Just a thought.
and open a window and cause more drag...
I think part of the driving test should be knowing how to use aircon and climate control.
My OH thinks that havinbg the climate set to 16deg in summer and 31 in winter is normal !!!!!!!
I just leave it at 20 all year round...0 -

Gotta agree with this... in every car I've had with climate control OFF means OFF. It shuts the whole thing down.
I've never had a Peugeot but I can't imagine it would be any different & I would suspect a fault, then again it's french....Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Er... no you could always leave the window shut. You might experience a rise in humidity inside the cabin but unless the sun is strong or the outside temperature is high it should remain comfortable enough. Just like it did before climate control became 'essential'.0
