Thank you sundin - I am glad someone has used them and they are actually a real site! Shame about your beading, hope you can get it sorted soon. Feeling a little more confident about ordering online now.

Taliwillow, your flooring (the compact hazelnut) looks lovely, you sound very happy with it. I had a look round factory direct flooring site last night and that is very reasonable too with lots of choice - thank you.
  • I was looking to use them but thought by the time the delivery charge was added on the cost was uncompetitive.

We've now got 2 laminate floors from Wickes (one of which has survived a burst pipe unscathed) and one from Next. The Wickes ones we are really pleased with, a good price on special deal and really easy to lay, one person no problem. 'Next' fitting needed 2 people and was a bit of a pain, looks nice though.

Thanks murphydog, I didn't know that next did flooring!

We've been looking at wickes too, the one I like (shire oak) is currently out of stock and the special offer ends today. Which one did you get?

Noticed the high delivery charge on ukflooringdirect but we need about 50m2 so perhaps the delivery charge sort of evens out then.
  • I think if you are ordering 50m2 from factory direct flooring then you may not have to pay a delivery charge. I think if you spend over £350 before VAt then it's free. I wasn't happy about the delivery charge but as we only live an hours drive from their warehouse we collected it both times.

I am happy with my compact hazelnut. I thought it was too dark when I saw the sample as I tend to go for light colours but after loking at numerous others and not finding anything better decided to go for it (hence only buying enough for 1 room to start just in case we hated it). We are so glad we took the plunge as it looks great. I had an Estate agent over a few days ago and he was amazed at how inexpensive it was in comparison to how it looks (I trust he was being genuine as I used to work with him so he wasn't just being a salesy salesman). If you are interested in the compact range (it has built in underlay which is useful too) but don't want to get it from factory direct then it may be useful for you to know that it also gets called Natura and Egger Floorline - think it's Natura on the next website and the box says Egger Floorline.
    Current Debt - [strike]£38000[/strike] [strike]£32000[/strike] [strike]£28500[/strike] [strike]£22000[/strike] [strike]£16000[/strike] [strike]£10000[/strike] [STRIKE]£1500[/STRIKE] £14000:eek:
  • Osian, shire oak is what we bought, large plank design with a bevelled edge, I've just checked online and it says it's in stock. If one branch hasn't got it they will tell you the nearest that has (they did for us anyway).

Thank you Taliwillow for the information, I'll see if I can go to a 'Next home' near me and see if they have the flooring there on show. I like the look of the floor very much. Not sure though if the shade is a little light for my home, but you say that the real sample appears darker than on the website?

Thank you Murphydog, yes - that is the one (shire oak), couldn't get it to show in stock last night, but in stock today at full price unfortunately - perhaps I'll have to wait til on offer again. Does it look like real floorboards when laid down in your home? Does it scratch or is it pretty tough?

Oh btw, if anyone wanting to buy at wickes - there is cashback (3.05%) and a discount code (15%) on topcashback.

    Thank you.
  • i used UK flooring direct to do my living room - i bought the engineered flooring which turned up on time and looked great when laid....however after a few weeks a bit of the filler which they use to fill knots or holes came away and left a small hole in flooring. I mailed UK flooring Direct and detailed my issue and was told that I should fill or replace the plank myself, even when i mentioned the 10 year warranty which came with the goods they still refused to help. So to summarise Uk flooring Direct are great if you have no problems but soon as you have a problem then you are on your own even if the goods are faulty

I'm surprised by a couple of the reviews on here - I searched uk flooring direct and found these responses a few months back and it did put me off a bit.

However I had fallen in love with a walnut engineered floor! The price was competitive so we took our chances and were pleased with the delivery (efficient) and when I got a bit confused about how to install we got some good advice from a member of staff.

Dining room looks great now - although I wouldn't recommend a dark floor in a smaller room because it does make the room look a little smaller.
  • Just ordered from UK Flooring Direct because the sample looked good and with their 10% off for Bank Holiday (BH10 before 5/6) they worked out cheaper than Factory Direct Flooring, even with the cost of delivery (£45, which is steep but I was quoted £95 for delivery by The Solid Wood Flooring Company yesterday). The engineered floor was thinner (10mm) than most and looks good with a nice texture. We were also considering vinyl, which actually is pretty difficult to spot but just felt we had to go with wood in the end. I'll let people know how it goes!
