07744: Myth?

I've just recently signed up to a T-Mobile monthly contract, with 50hours worth (every month, although off-peak only) of inclusive minutes.

I've been reading about this 07744 access number for free International Calls on the net for some time now, and i decidede to give it a go yesterday.

I dialed 077449******, for around 20 seconds and then hanged up. To my surprised, i checked my bill and i was charged for dialing this number during the off-peak times, using my inclusive minutes.

And everywhere I check online, everyone says its free:rolleyes:

I phoned Customer Services twice, and they confirmed this number is a "bypass" number, it would take up my inclusive minutes, and i would also be charged for it at the normal rate.

HOWEVER...

My price plan allows me to only make calls to other T-Mobile numbers for free, during off-peak, and does not allow me to take calls to other services for free. So the only assumption i can make is that this 07744 number is not registered under a T-Mobile number..but hey, alot of service providers offer price plans that allow free calls to only numbers on their network.

How are you meant to know which number belongs to which network

And can anyone help me find a UK landline with a similar effect? :o Free International calls? e.g. 0207, 0208?

  • edit: oops didn;t read your post fully, so long as they are 100% sure it comes out of your inclusive minutes you should be ok.

I use a Orange contract phone and use a 07744 number without problems and I know someone on virgin uses it without problem as well, how long this will last though is another matter.

    https://www.yourcallworld.com i use without hassle.

You need to have INCLUSIVE X-NET MOBILE MINUTES ,not own network offpeak minutes to benefit from 07744 dial through numbers. They only work from Orange,Virgin, and T-Mob contracts.;)

They are special numbers and are not allocated to any network.

Why would anyone wanna give you Free Intl Access via a geographical number? How would they make a profit?

What does X-Net Mobile minutes mean?

Does it mean, any number (any network)?

Also, what is a National number..0800, 0870, 0845 (or are they all national numbers)

I am on a T-mobile contract, but my price plan only offers me FREE calls to landlines, national and calls to other T-Mobile phones. Calls to non-T Mobile phones would cost me.

If the 07744 is not allocated to a specific network, then why on Earth was I charged?

    X-Net or Cross - Net.
Means any UK Mobile Number any Geographical Landline Number.

    National is numbers starting 01/02.

0800/0844/0845/0870 are Non - Georaphical Numbers.

So although the 07744 is not allocated to a specific network, i still need a price plan that allows me to call (for free) any UK mobile number within its inclusive minutes, to take advantage of this 07744?

Although it does not belong a specific network as such, you are charged to call them if you dont qualify for a free call.Either way the provider of the number recieves a interconnect fee from the networks. That enables them to run the service and make a profit.

But i do qualify for free calls, but these only apply in the evenings and weekends, for local, national and calls to other T-Mobile (UK) phones.

I am on the Freeetime 3000 price plan. You can google it if the link above doesn't work.

I'm getting very confused - Help :( Basically, is it impossible for me to call that number without getting charged whilst im on this price plan?
  • O2 works just requires different 0844/0870 numbers for weekdays and weekends, would be nice to know why...
