Back in my day, mums worked part-time, or evenings/weekends if money was needed. That was the norm. Not to have childcare and work full-time.

Means testing should include both assets and income
I hate the idea that says, lower income earners shouldnt pay tax to pay for middle income child benefit.
So where does the tax from the middle income earners go? Is it just low earners that contribute to all Child Benefit payments? I will lose it by about £150 over the income limit. My neighbours both work and earn 80% more than we do but keep Child benefit. My tax pays my Child Benefit easily. Perhaps my tax is earmarked for politicians pensions?
I also dont like this idea that by not paying child benefit, we are somehow penalising the child. No, its the parents who had the child without proper support in place that are penalising their own children. We seem to have removed the onus on supporting our own kids to expecting the government to do so.
Happy to do my bit....but fairly please.

Beside the point, people should not be having children if they know they are not capable of supporting them. Would it be right to buy a Ferrari and expect other taxpayers to pay for the petrol?

I have no children and don't plan to, so why should I pay for someone else to have kids.

Those with Children living in the UK
If people moan about people overstretching themselves on mortgages they need to relate that to their lives and supporting children.

If any one need child benefit to get by on a wage over £40K they need to have a serious look where the hell they are bleeding money. (especially if they have a working partner also)

Some people on here are saving up deposits for houses etc yet making out the removal of this for people on high incomes will be detrimental to their children.

Why would you not save a little less each month so your children are unaffected?

    Its exactly the point.

Or do you think most people wake up one day & think
Oh I will have a child because I can get £15 a week to feed it & cloth it

Interesting observation above about you comparing kids to Ferrari's though.

I wonder I you can get one of those TVR kids???

You could get them to stretch their legs & arms at the hospital for the perfect fit.

I am not sure I am in favour of contributing to someone who doesn't believe in contributing.
