Also i had an account with Abbey which i defaulted on (now paid off) and do you think they will shut my account because of this??

  • No, you should keep history and they are unlikely to shut your account over a paid default.

However, If you were lucky they would close it. I recommend you take some time (if you have not already) to look at the forum and assess if it delivers suitable service for you, then move banks to avoid the curse of satander.
Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.

Thats an interesting one. Well I would open an account up with RBS in Scotland and let the other account transfer over. Then as you have had problems in the past keep your history with RBS. This is my view is important.

Abbey / Santander. Well they might have forgotten you by now. Companies dont usually. But Santander are great at getting things wrong.

Firstly I would look at opening a new account. Even a Key account at a Scottish branch. I dont see Santander understanding the history with RBS, even if they get told of it.

The main part of the thread :D

Also of a more serious note. I have just gained access to Santanders internet servie. Its just not as good as RBS system.

You dont need to open a new account online just ask for your account to be transfered to a scottish branch Call 0800 210 0214 and they will send you a form.

  • Hi,

If you can, open an account at a Scottish based branch if it's in your best interests to do so. I've heard so many horror stories about Santander and that's been enough to scare me off using them. A few other members of the community have given you some really good advice here, hope everything works out to your satisfaction :)

I would agree with that. However as the op has had issues with finance in the past. Would it not be better to try a new account first, then or as well move the account. Just to be safer than sorry. Also he might get lucky and santander take his account on, which case he would be building a new history with them.

There must be many others who are in his situation. Upset Abbey but are now with RBS.

As long as the OP has got a good relationship with RBS I couldnt see no issue why they wouldnt allow them to transfer branches.

If they was to make a new application if they have adverse data from Santander/abbey this may show up on the credit scoring which might get them a decline.

If you open an account in scotland and transfer your current RBS account to scotland... does this keep the account history?

I'm thinking of doing this, but need my account history kept as i'll shortly be applying for a mortgage

    thanks, DJ
