It certainly seems sensible based on everything I read, it's just the nervousness about being the first one they pursue...a CCJ would ruin chances of future mortgage applications etc.

Do you actually understand the mechanism of how a CCJ is obtained? It's not simple for the PPC to go down that road.

Thanks for the help guys. I am not a troll of any description - I received this letter today and can upload it if that helps!

And no I don't understand the mechanism of obtaining a CCJ. Will do some more reading. Thanks again guys.

To get a CCJ the case has to actually go to court (very unlikely), you lose (very, very unlikely) and then you refuse to pay whatever the judge orders. As you see, not a simple process.

I see so actually if you pay the money the judge says you don't get a CCJ, that's worth knowing!

So final question...I take it these jokers, or their debt collection company, have no recourse to add anything to your credit history over this?

And nobody has ever had the "visit within 72 hours"? That's the worrying bit with two small children:(

    Thank you so so much.

Debt collectors cannot affect you credit record unless they go through the procedure outlined above. As for that "72 hour visits", it never happens. Don't forget that debt collectors are just private citizens with no special powers. They cannot enter your property and they cannot seize goods. In the remote chance that they do turn up at your door, tell them to go away, or you will report them to the police for harassment.
