Thousands Of New Jobs At Jaguar Land Rover

The issue at hand is whether it's 'good news' that JLR will not be closing any of its UK plants, but will rather be investing money its UK operations therby increasing employment opportunities.
I think it's good news. The OP thinks it's good news. A number of other posters here think it's good news. JLR management clearly think it's good news, and what's more Unite, the union that actually represents the workers at JLR (and therefore might be said to know a thing or two about what's actually going on) thinks it's good news. Case closed, I would have thought.
Wait there's more! In it's daily summary of the day's events, Labour List (http://www.labourlist.org/party-lines-october-15th) quotes Ed Miliband as saying that the deal is ""great example of cooperation between Jaguar Land Rover, the company’s workforce and the trade union", whilst John Denham says it's "great news" and local MP Jack Dromey calls it "brilliant news".
The BBC (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-11549823) has found another couple of Unite officials prepared to put their views on record - Gerard Coyne calls it an "excellent deal" and Terry Fitzgerald descibes it as "fantastic news" - with even the Liberal Democrat MP for Solihull (Lorely Burt) getting in on the act and also calling it "fantastic news".
Why at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-11553971 the BBC has even found some people who actually work for JLR ready to speak "of their relief and happiness" at the news.
At this rate the Good Lord himself will soon be descending from heaven to also declare the good news.0 -
That has to be a joke? Len McClusky & Derek Simpson? A Labour MP? Seriously...you're having us on eh?
Well the actual quote should be;So basically you're saying that there is no hope for me because I place more weight on the opinions of actual trade unionists such as Len McCluskey and Derek Simpson, or even Labour MPs such as Richard Burden, rather than your opinions, which are based on the fact that you allegedly "know many people who know & even some that know people that know".
(Not sure where the 'blah' came from.)
So am I joking? Well, no actually. I place far more weight on the opinions expressed by the likes of Derek Simpson, Len McCluskey, Richard Burden, Ed Miliband, John Denham, Jack Dromey, Gerard Coyne, Terry Fitzgerald, and even Lorely Burt, not to mention the actual workers at JLR who were interviewed by the BBC, as opposed to some random guy off the internet who says he knows somebody who knows something.0 -

You are making yourself look like a complete co ck now.
Whilst we are on the subject can you tell me who within Labour was responsible for handing over millions to Rover just before it went tits up?
Coincidently this was just weeks before a general election.
Have they recovered that money yet or the millions of pounds the 4 syphoned off to their pension funds whilst seeing Rover down on its knees? Or is it still being hushed up?

Can't remember. Probably either Patricia Hewitt or Alan Johnson. Actually, it would have been Hewitt because the government made the loan before the election, and 'Postman Pat' took over at the DTI after the election. Although if memory serves correct they did make the loan after MG Rover had already gone "tits up", apparently to keep it going until a buyer was found. Waste of money of you ask me. The NAO certainly thought so.
As to the millions the Phoenix Four syphoned off. No it hasn't been recovered and the SFO declined to prosecute. (Something to do with the efficiency with which the PF comprehensively deleted documents I think.) Can't see how it's been hushed up tho'; there was a wacking great report produced on it all by BDO.
Not that JLR was ever part of the MG Rover Group. Ford bought Jaguar in 1990 and Land Rover in 2000 at the time that BMW decided to give up on Rover. So it's a bit off topic really, although I do seem to remember something about Tata (who now own JLR) also buying the Rover name.0 -

Close but no cigar.
Once again. I can tell you don't really know anything about who, what & where.
All the history is missing vital points/data/names/business names that anyone who knew what they were talking about would include.
Keep googling.Not Again0 -

OMG! Come on now...the joke is running out of steam! Next you'll be dropping in names such as Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Pravda...

Oh I'm disappointed. I thought that you would have jumped at the chance to have displayed your superior knowledge. Now you're leaving everybody with the distinct impression that all you have to offer is empty bluster.0
