Are these proper full-time permanent jobs or like the hundreds they laid off at a moments notice without redundancy as they had been working on rolling temporary contracts for years on end?

It would be nice to know they are not just "temporary".

Last night, I was talking to a mate who works there.

All is not as it seems. What a suprise.
30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.

It certainly isn't "as reported" on Sky ;)

I know many people who know & even some that know people that know.

If you know what I mean.

Excellent, it seems Liverpool will be the new economic powerhouse of the UK in light of this and the collapse of the finance industry in london. I recommend everybody relocates there poste haste.

The issue at hand is whether it's 'good news' that JLR will not be closing any of its UK plants, but will rather be investing money its UK operations therby increasing employment opportunities.

I think it's good news. The OP thinks it's good news. A number of other posters here think it's good news. JLR management clearly think it's good news, and what's more Unite, the union that actually represents the workers at JLR (and therefore might be said to know a thing or two about what's actually going on) thinks it's good news. Case closed, I would have thought.

You would of thought wouldn't you.

Now that you have done your "research" ( :rotfl: ) can you now state how many new jobs & when & in what capacity & on what terms?

    Thought not.

    Now back to my comments.

The story is about non closure not new jobs, unless of course you watch !!!! news channels like Sky..

Now that you have done your "research" ( ) can you now state how many new jobs & when & in what capacity & on what terms?

    From the news report cited by OP;

    http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Business/Jaguar-Land-Rover-To-Invest-Billions-And-Create-Thousands-Of-New-Jobs/Article/201010315758762?lpos=Business_News_Your_Way_Region_7&lid=NewsYourWay_ARTICLE_15758762_Jaguar_Land_Rover_To_Invest_Billions_And_Create_Thousands_Of_New_Jobs

"The new jobs will include 1,500 at the Halewood plant on Merseyside next year"

"Len McCluskey, assistant general secretary of Unite, said he hoped up to 4,000 new jobs will be created."

If that's not sufficient, why not contact Richard Burden, the Labour MP for Birmingham Northfield, who said "With both plants secure, investment and new jobs over the next decade and the potential of exciting new models, this is good news for manufacturing and good news for the West Midlands."

As to what terms the jobs will be offered, I would suggest contacting the HR department at JLR if anyone is interested in applying. They're probably a better source of information than some anonymous poster on an internet forum who gets his information from some bloke who says he knows someone who knows something.

There really is no hope for you.

    Not a jot of it.

    Like I said before.

    You "understand" nothing.

You cannot even read. You have to read each word for example & reading it in context is also a must.

    Big time fail.

Or do you work for Unite?

When is the strike vote by the way?

So basically you're saying that there is no hope for me because I place more weight on the opinions of actual trade unionists such as Len McCluskey and Derek Simpson, or even Labour MPs such as Richard Burden, rather than your opinions, which are based on the fact that you allegedly "know many people who know & even some that know people that know". And you're quite right, I do fail to 'understand' why I should place more reliance on verifiable information that appears in the online media or in official announcements made by representative bodies such as Unite, rather than on some remarks made by some anonymous poster on an internet forum who claims to have some uncanny ability to see the truth that is hidden from us mere mortals.

As someone decided to report/delete my response here is a quick run down of what was posted.

    Learn how to read.

    Answer the question
Now that you have done your "research" ( :rotfl: ) can you now state how many new jobs & when & in what capacity & on what terms?

Then carry on arguing with yourself.

& all because you cannot read a set of accounts.

    Idiot.
