Renault Clio key fobs

Hi there,

I have a Renault Clio 53 reg and last week both key fobs stopped working when trying to lock or unlock the car.

Figured it could be batteries but both going at the exact same time is a bit weird

No other problems - keys work fine to start ignition etc

anyone any ideas on the problem or cost of getting them fixed? will it mean replacement keys?

thanks in advance!

Does the central locking still work? ie does manually (un)locking one door automatically lock the others?

If not = Central locking fuse blown = 15 pence

Is it only a problem in one particular location? could be localised interference!

If not then it sounds like a receiver unit failure on the car itself = expensive!

central locking still works, i have an indoor locking button (excuse my lack of technical jargon) whcih i have to use to lock driver door & boot and then lock the passenger door manually with the key.

have tried it in a few locations as takes a while to get used to not just walking away and pressing the button! is getting a bit annoying...

when you say expensive.........any suggestions of how much?? not that i really want to know!!

    thanks!

A receiver unit could be anywhere between £50 and £150 at a very rough guess.

I read somewhere else a suggestion of pulling out the central locking fuse to allow the system to reset, id give that a go first ;)

If it's the car's reciever then it will be expensive

If it's the fuse then as above your talking pennies.

I can't see you'd need new keys if they are both doing it - there's a fault or a blown fuse

    Good luck

I used to own a 04 RenaultSport 182 - If my memory serves me right the fuses are on the passenger dashboard side bit. Like open the door and you should see them facing you. I hope that makes sense lol

Failing that you have got some fuse and relays right next to the battery - I could be wrong as the RS version of the clio is slightly different to the normal Clios

Oh and just a thought i'm certain your keys will be fine

When you inserth the key into the ignition the immobiliser reads the code on the key and allows you to start it so if your keys were fubared the car wouldn't start.

It a central locking issue and i'm sure thats a fuse..

Oh and the auto lock door thingy your talking about is R.A.ID (Reanault Anti Intruder Device)

  • Clio II keyfobs use watch/camera batteries and are easy to change yourself. Did my GFs last year.
