I checked A & L online to check the 5 .38% Interest, and I was amazed that for a savings account they can pass on all your personal details to other companies. Its in the small print, and that put me off straight away!
Where exactly do they give themselves permission to pass on your personal details without your consent?

That was exactly what I thought, there are no boxes where you can agree or dissagree. In fact it more or less states that they are entitled to do so! I even showed my wife, no wonder that we are all bombarded with junk mail in advertising?
  • Is dealornodeal referring to Para 27 of the T&Cs? It looks like fairly standard terminology to me, but maybe I'm being naive?

Regarding the interest rate, looks like I may as well hold on until beginning December to see whether they pass on the interest rate rise. Seeing as how my account isn't even open yet (I applied on 16 October and sent off ID etc by return) it's not an issue yet. Landsbanki have my recent windfall and there it will stay for the time being.......

I do find it quite hilarious that it's down to A&L being so slow opening my account that they will likely miss out on my business!

Error: You tried to access the address http://www.applications.alliance-leicester.co.uk-multi-productonline/, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.

Edit: I've just been to the applications webpage (which is where I think you were trying to link me to) and the T&Cs are exactly the same as the ones I quoted. A&L will not pass on your details without consent except for the specific purposes mentioned - which relate to fraud, tracing debt/criminal activities and credit scoring.

    Maybe this...

...is what 'dealornodeal' is referring to?

Blimey! That's pretty worrying. If there really is no opportunity to opt out during the application process, then that's a pretty low move by A&L.
  • Just to add a little balance here my account was opened in about a fortnight and is running smoothly. If the rate doesnt increase i probably wont use it much though.

Thankyou YorkshireBoy that is precisely what I was referring to!
