  • No sign of this account being added to my accounts on line and I have received no account number yet either through the post or online.

What is the account called when they show it online?
  • The activation of the new A+L account should be quite quick. I applied late on Monday evening and got the letter Wednesday morning and by that time the account had already appeared on screen for me to simply activate. If it hasn't worked for anyone within one working day, then I would keep ringing A+L to find out why....
  • "hot chick" - the account is simply listed on screen as "Directsaver".

You have to click the "add/modify accounts" button and then you should see the new account sitting there waiting to be enabled. Once enabled it joins your list of active accounts on the main page.......

No, it's just the first of every month. I opened mine a week ago and got interest today. HTH

Thanks I was becoming a bit impatient I guess as I was online until midday yesterday but didn't see the interest but it's been sorted now I checked my account yesterday evening and interest has now been paid.:j

Will consider moving some from other savings accounts and leave the rest with ICESAVE.;)

Right I have my account and it has been 'added' However I am still not 100% sure about this "withdraw it all on the first day of the month" Banks can use calendar month in different ways. It usually means "one of the twelve months" but can mean "a period from a date in one month to the same date, less one day, in the next month"

I cannot find the A&L employees confirmation here

    We NEED this answer!

Edit: mind, if the interest has been credited they probably wont claw it back, or will they? I don't trust A&L much!

Did you try to send a secure message on their website regarding your query?
I for one will be interested for their reply.
  • With no further information available - and no A&L spokesperson anywhere apart from the other end of an 0870 phone line  - an average person would interpret "Calendar month" to mean November, December etc.

So if they are sneaking one past customers, journalists & Martin they are in for a hell of a hammering.

The Banking Code's first line is a "promise" to "act fairly and reasonably in all our dealings with you.

They would also fall foul of the FSA's new "Treating Customers Fairly" approach.

It just wouldn't be worth it for A&L to be that sneaky.

Well I wasted my money on two 0870 calls (on the number given to me by branch staff) only to find that I still couldn't get through to anyone without an A&L customer number.

So A&L cannot be contacted by phone about basic account information

Cheers Martin. Now I know I will get the OFFICIAL answer. If I phone up they might fob me off with whatever comes into their heads. If you phone...well I guess they might try to make sure they get it right!
