Can I Tax my car with temporary Insurance? I just can't afford to buy an insurance policy....it so freaking expensive for me for some reason. And I need to renew road tax on my car in november. So I think maybe I can buy temporary insurance cover for a 10 or so days then just tax my car? Because without tax I will need to take car of the road

Without insurance your car would also need to be off the road...... :eek:0

Why do you need tax if you wont have insurance ?0

I will buy Insurance in January, or so. I bought a car for peanuts, and its road tax is due in november. I cant afford to buy insurance and tax at the same time. So I thinking of buying tax first with temporary insurance, and then in january to buy an insurance policy. I am new to the uk, and I need new insurance policy which is very high priced for some reason. I got a quote from several comperisson sites and the lovest priced policy that I found is a tesco car insurance for nearly 2100 pounds
I am male, 25 years old. And want to drive Ford mondeo LX 1.8 of 1997. I have my license since 18years old.
So can I get it taxed with remporary insurance or not??0 -
Not sure if you can get TAX with tempory insurance or not be regarless of wheather the car is been driven or not it cannot be parked or indeed used on public roads within the UK without a valid TAX disc, valid insurance and a valid MOT certificate so even if you did manage to TAX it with a tempory insurance it would still be liable to get crushed as it would have no insurance which would make it being on the road illegal. Just out of curiosity does it have a valid MOT certificate?? :cool:0

Regardless of whether you can tax your car with a temporary policy you need insurance for your car to be on the road so unless you are going to take out temporary insurance until january this won't work it is illegal to drive without valid insurance regardless of whether the car is taxed or not.
If you cannot afford to insure the car to january you far better declare the car off the road (SORN) otherwise you are paying for 3 months tax which you will not get any use of. You can put your tax money away until you have insurance money as well or I think the post office still do road tax stamps which you can buy and save until you need them so the temptation to spend the cash is gone.
Uninsured drivers cause havoc on the uk roads and push up everyone elses premiums, Please don't be tempted to drive uninsured, what if you have an accident?0 -
Hmm....I didn't think of that before. What do I need to take the car of the road? Do I need some place to store it or I just can leave it beside my house? Car has valid mot til I-dont-remember-which-month-of-summer.
I just was thinking that you cant have car parked without road tax....
But anyway is it possible to tax a car with temporary insurance? Is it possible to tax a car for a few months(4?6?)
As I said, I am new to UK, and some stuff seems really weird
I would like to thank anybody for the answers they maid, really appreciate this0 -
If it is declared SORN it must not be driven/parked/used/or even sniff a public road so if it is a private road outside your house (and you have permission from the owner) then yes it can be left there....
However if it is a public road as mentioned before it MUST have a valid MOT certificate (which you say it does), a valid insurance policy & a valid TAX disc..... you cant just get a tempory insurance then tax the vehicle and leave it on the road without insurance (well technically you could but it would then be illegal and liable to be crushed) :beer:0 -

You need to park it off the road on private land - so if you have a private drive, you can leave it there. It won't need tax/mot/insurance until you move it off the drive.
To do this, use google on how to SORN the vehicle.
If you want to leave it on the road (but not drive it), you still need to have it insured all the time.0 -

As has been previously mentioned if you have no insurance then the vehicle must be kept off road - this means on private property (need permission of owner of property). It cannot be kept on road, council land, pavement etc.
You can tax with temporary insurance.
The minimum road tax you can buy is for 6months.
As you say you are new to UK and seem unaware of the laws required for you to keep a vehicle I suggest that you readd through the various sections on motoring on this website:

But if in case that I buy a car without tax, or with a road tax for about to end, I defenitely can buy a temporary Insurance, pay the road tax, sell it, or use it until temporary insurance is due, then get a normal insurance or another one temporary ?:)
It is not the cheapest way of running a car0
