When one engages in PMs, one does so on the assumption that what one discloses their is done in confidence.
There is an element of trust. I'd never PM anyone anything resembling anything truly helping to identify me, unless I trusted them.
Sure, of course. The thing is, when people tell you things that may or not be true, you can't help joining dots some times and feeling the cyber id is chipped a tad to the real person. Not much usually. Its just its not quite that the cyber world and real world never ever cross over.
edit: reading that back it sounds like someone of a nervous disposition, which of course the cyber id bendix is not, could become paranoid about so I am clarifying there is no need on earth for anyone I PM with to be!0 -
Agreed. When i lived in Asia it was not only considered completely normal to talk about income, it was even considered impolite to not answer a direct question about income honestly. To be evasive on it is considered the height of rudeness.
Same in France. The first question I was asked on my first day in every job I did was, 'How much?'.0 -

The title is "discuss your salary". The clue is in the title. If you don't want to see the thread or contribute to it, don't open it, not complicated.0 -

except the comment you are quoting was aimed at the "chucky wants to see everyone's knobs" post, which one could not have reasonably expected to see when opening a thread about salaries.
£68k whilst we're at it. £2.5k of "flexible benefits" on top of that, variable bonus which for last two years has been 20% and 17.5%. 11% pension contribution (no employee contribution required).0 -
Annually I'm making 65-70k + approx 10k from some properties/land.
Up until recently my OH described it (jokingly I hope?!) as the 'beer' money as she was the main earner and on over 180k - but she's quit the rat race now so I'm currently investigating ways of upping my salary!
PGo round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger0 -
I'm always wary of posting too much detail on here. I post in other forums and in truth, anyone that knows me would be able to match me up quite easily. E.g. give out job description, talk about age, talk about wife, post on the holiday board questions about holidays, match that lot up and it would be easy.
No doubt I'm being overly paranoid, but I would prefer for this username to remain anonomous. And in case it doesn't, things like salary information are not the best details to share.0 -

My issue is not with discussing salary. In fact I don't have an issue. It was a moment of frustration that yet again individual poster bashing/joking/whatevering was starting. The topic, as I have stated, is one I have discussed before and is relevant to the forum and often, when it gets more involved, becomes very, very interesting. Thank you for your advice in any case, so neatly put into perspective by your other post.

My salary is £154,000 plus 9% pension payment, plus i can usually expect an annual bonus of £15-£25k. This year it was £22,000.
I'm surprised. As a lawyer in the smoke, I anticipated much higher - something akin to the lawyer earning £500k in the article. In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -

Apologies for misinterpreting your post. I had read it as not liking the thread itself. Couldn't agree more there are far too many personal insults thrown around.0 -
