100 dollars an hour? Wow. I'll have to tell my BIL he's greedy so and so if he thinks academics are poorly paid. Which uni did you teach in in Sydney? What a small world if you know each other! 'll catch up with them on skype later this week and ask him his exact wage but it's nowhere near what you earnt.
In England freelance teachers/tutors are often paid for 3 hours for every contact hour (to cover preparation/marking time). So A$100 per hour wouldn't be unexpectedly high if it was per hour actually lecturing. Also they wouldn't qualify for pensions and other benefits which can be quite a large part of salary. It's hard to tell from the original comment what "$100/hour" covers.0 -

Yup, maybe Generali could tell us what the $100 covered?
I really cannot understand these people on forum sites who takes what someone says as gospel. All they have to do is check out Australian salaries to see that Generali wildly exaggerates. For all we know he may not have been a Uni tutor. I thought you had to TRAIN to teach, especially in a university!:D For someone who's supposed to be a financial advisor/banker/university tutor he hasn't advised himself very well.
Still waiting to see his answer to the OP's question. lol0 -
What was wrong, is there a rule on this board that once a thread reaches 100 posts an argument has to break out?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. So YOU say. I actually lived out there for a few months myself, on a long holiday, and have relatives out in Sydney. I know the place very well.
Oh. Right. You went on holiday there. Nice.
Yes, I concede then that your holiday beats the fact i worked there for two years by a country mile.
I defer to your greater knowledge0 -
I expect to earn around £9000 this financial year! Yay
To be fair, I live very cheaply and have no dependents so it's fine for the time being.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0
