$80,000pa plus 9% super (pension) plus bonus plus a deal on a car so perhaps a little under $100,000pa. I've earned more and I've earned less.
I don't understand why English people don;t like talking about their income and I double don't understand why anonymous internet people don't like it.
Before the housing boards were split out a woman(?) was asking how much in £ notes it was reasonable for her to borrow to buy a house. I asked how much she earned. She had a sense of humour failure.
You are a uni tutor aren't you Generali? You're earning a fantastic wage. My sis lives out on Sydney Australia and my BIL teaches too, very high up he is and has been teaching at uni for years. You might even know him. He doesn't earn anywhere near $100,000 a year though. What do you teach? He's always complaining how academics are poorly paid for what they do.0 -
Might regret this given the bashing Public Sector workers get everywhere but I'm on £26.5k, I've had a bonus this year of £630 which I fundamentally disagree with given we are supposed to be in a pay freeze (and Public sector workers are only given bonuses to limit the effect of a payrise of their pensionable pay) and a 1.5% pension contribution."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

There is nothing wrong with public sector workers earning around the average wage if they are doing a job that adds value and at a similar workload to the private sector equivalent.0 -
52K(44K basic plus 8K in specialist allowance), experience based pay rise coming in early 2012 (4K) and I earn an additional 1500-3K PA in additional allowances, such as operational allowance, which fortunately is tax free. I spend on average 6 months a year away. Due to the "unique" way in which the government can fiddle its employees, at retirement, about 16K of my salary is non-pensionable, despite currently paying tax on this amount.
I am under 30.
Equivalent pay in civilian street is comparable, without the faff, extra work I do at work (assistant risk manager for a "company" operating £1.5 billion in assets taking up 30 hours a week and running a training programme for 3,500 employees) potentially getting shot at and an allowances system which assumes fraud with every claim you make.
Just for comparison, these are BA's figures from back in 2004:CAPTAIN

Realistically, I would have been working for BA for 8 years now, and probably would be a long haul first officer and not a captain (I earned captaincy in 3 years, BA takes around about 20 to get to the same stage due to their seniority system.
That would equate to a salary of £55,725 plus allowances, call it 15% after spendies, equates to £64,000. Without the additional responsibilities I hold. Plus they get family flights and mucho cheap holidays as part of their package.
Its no wonder I am studying for my licences currently as SDSR is going to hammer us and take what remaining fun we had away.

I want to go virgin though. Better holiday perks, worse pay, but an awsome lifestyle and a great airline.0 -
I earn £43k and Mrs Cleaver earns £22k. I was earning more than this not too long ago in a job I didn't like, but now I'm in a job I really do like so the drop in pay has been more than worthwhile. We don't have any kids and live very comfortably on this money, so all is good. I also took around a dozen days off last year to deliver talks, which pays really well.
I don't mind discussing this an an anonymous forum, but probably wouldn't discuss it with friends. I guess if a friend asked me directly what I earned I would tell them, but my experience is that my friends have never asked, I don't ask them, so I'm not really sure what people I know earn. My friend is a solicitor and when he mentioned how much he earned after tax I was shocked as it was a lot lower than I expected, and it goes to show that there's a lot of variability within one industry.0 -

I was a uni tutor teaching economics 101 whilst waiting for the GFC to blow over and I made $100/hr. I am back in banking now although not in investment banking like I once was.
I quite enjoyed academia but while I could see myself doing research, the teaching side sux now that unis have become sausage factories.0 -

What does economics research entitle these days Gen? What would a typical research paper consist of?
Is it all theoretical discussion or does it actually involve some maths, eg dynamic systems and multi order differential equations?0 -
 Lot of posters with good wage on this forum. Ironic given this forum is for money saving, budgeting and so on. I also generally find that people do not discuss income at all, either from jobs or other areas.
Still, on this forum, there is anonymity so I will gladly say what my wages are. Basically, my income is £13,000 per year this year (reliable), before bonuses and overtimes though (unreliable). It was after recent pay rise few month ago (surprise!).0 -

Why would you assume those on higer salaries don't want ot save money, budget and so on?0 -
The salary base on this particular forum probably has something to do with the nature of the discussion. I doubt most would be able to comprehend what APR actually means, never mind the complexities of the recession and the details of "Supply and Demand" "Push vs Pull" inflation.
I find that about 80% will believe without question what they read in their particular red-top paper, Daily Mail or Express. No critical thought path seems to exist in the vast majority of people in this country; critical thought that is demonstrated on this particular forum.
Most people are more interested in getting the next size up widescreen 3D LCD TV than what is going on around them.0
