PLAY.COM and their shoddy delivery service regarding Pre orders

  • shopto.net are the best IMO. They offer good value on pre-orders (they had the best pre-order price for Fifa 11) and offer free signed for delivery. If the games arrives after the release date then they refund you £3 on your next purchase as well.

But don't have a go at Play, they are very good and can't help if Royal Mail suck some days.
Thought for the day: each generation of mankind tends to hug the illusion of having reached the culmination of human achievement. Yet, as we scoff at our groping ancestors, so our descendants will surely scoff at us.

First Class delivery items can take up to 14 days, thats Royal Mail's policy not Play.com's.

Its not Play.com's fault you didn't get it today, I ordered my copy of MoH from shopto, they sent it on 12th Oct and it turned up on 14th.

I'm not sure how you expect Play.com to guarantee it gets to you on release day short of posting it 2 weeks before release.
  • play are useless for their delivery times. they say 3-5 days delivery - which usually means they will wait til day 4 to post it

Where I work, MOH arrived at the shop on tuesday (not to be sold until today). If Play didn't get theirs until tuesday, there's not a lot they can do. Are there more expensive postal options?

Game has a giant share of the market so can afford to give the "first to play" guarantee, but even THAT doesn't ensure release day delivery. It just means that if you preorder, yours will be in the first shipment out to customers... as my friend found out when his GTA 4 order didn't arrive until after mine - I got mine from shopto.

My partner preordered his copy via Play.com and that arrived today.

I guess it is a risk you take when ordering anything over the internet. If you want to ensure getting the item on time the only real way is going to shop and buying it over the counter.

Theres many factors in which this could have been delayed, many mentioned already.
That said of course, its in no way an excuse for rude or no customer service.

they have 5 days from release date. technically the game developers could drop it off at all retailers (including play.com) at 12am on release date, therefore it would be impossible to deliver the goods on release date. you should be thankiing play.com for posting this game earlier than the release date, you would not have complained if you recieved the item a day before release date and have no grounds for a valid complaint untill the item has not been delivered after 5 days. if you were a proper gamer you would know this

I order from Play alot (though it's not usually preorder) and providing the item is listed as in stock when I place my order it is usually posted within 24hrs. I guess it depends on the item, the stock levels and day/time the order is placed.

I use Play a lot but I've noticed over the past few months or so that delivery is slower. Up until recently pre-orders have always arrived on the Saturday before a Monday release date, with a despatch email being sent on a Thursday. With the last few pre-orders, I've received despatch emails on Tuesday but haven't had the CDs or DVDs until the following Tuesday or Wednesday. Normal orders take five or six days from despatch where as before I'd receive them two days later, or even next day on quite a few occasions.

Of course, this could all be down to Royal Mail.
