treasurehuntcash.com

This was removed for self promotion, I hope no one minds me posting it up again. The first hunt is completely free (subsequent hunts will cost $1). Although in dollars the site is based in the uk

Register to get Octobers clue, which you can see here

It works largely the same as cashhunt except the clues can lead to anywhere in the world rather than just the uk, and you don't know the number of letters in the solution.
You need to solve each section of the clue in turn, which will lead you to to different places until you reach the final location.

You can submit one answer per day and the winner will be chosen at random from all correct answers.

Good luck :)

I think I've solved down to a bourgeois statue, after that I'm struggling. Will see where other people get to before I post anything (unless you really want me to) ;)

P.S. be careful googling 'nude scenarios'! :rotfl:
(you might not need to ;) )

eta - I think I've solved it now, I was in the wrong place. Just not entirely sure about a bit of the last clue. Because we don't have the letters I don't know if I've got the final place or if there's a bit more.

    Thanks Reniannen.

I have joined the site, but haven't had a chance to have a go at the clues. I think it would be fun if you just let us have a bash at it for a day or two before we have to admit defeat and ask you to help :rotfl:

I am having to pop out for a bit soon, so probably won't be able to join in much until tomorrow.

    Good luck everyone.

Well, apart from reniannen, is anyone else off the starting block? I'm not :rotfl:

Surely, the rest of us are not going to let reniannen beat us! Come on - we need some ideas.

I've been searching on "The Royal Arthur" and have been looking at Skegness and Corsham as possible starting points, because of the naval base of that name. There was also a naval ship called "The Royal Arthur", which seems to have been scrapped somewhere in Germany. If it is not a naval link, then I don't know which Royal Arthur we are looking for. King Arthur was my first thought, but nobody seems to be sure what the true location of Camelot is. There are a few Prince Arthurs, but none that I am liking as a starting point.

If Skegness is the starting point, then perhaps the Tourism's early start bit is to do with Butlins at Skegness. I'm thinking of the Hi Di Hi TV programme with Su Pollard yelling "Wakey Wakey Campers"

    Anyone else got any ideas?
  • I'm in - no ideas yet tho
In dreams there are no impossibilities
  • I think we start here...
    Ludlow Castle, Shropshire.
I googled royal arthur heart and this was the second hit... http: //www. ludlowcastle. com/Pages/history.aspx

    Prince Arthur
Elder son of Henry Tudor, brother of Henry V111, Prince Arthur died at Ludlow Castle on April 2nd, 1502. He had been staying there with his new wife, Catherine of Aragon on honeymoon. Prince Arthur's heart was buried at Ludlow. His wife returned to London where she later became the first of Henry V111's six wives. Her divorce from Henry sparked the English split from Rome and launched the turbulent years of the Reformation.
In dreams there are no impossibilities
  • then go here...
    Wye Valley, Chepstow, Wales.
I googled early tourism locations uk, second hit down is the Wikipedia page for Tourism in Wales... http:// en. wikipedia. org/ wiki/ Tourism_in_Wales

"The Wye Valley witnessed the birth of British tourism in the eighteenth century. The area became widely known following the publication in 1782 of Observations on the River Wye by the Reverend William Gilpin. The first illustrated tour guide to be published in Britain, it helped travellers locate and enjoy the most "picturesque" aspects of the countryside, such as Tintern Abbey. The Wye Valley's particular attraction was its river scenery, and the many guidebooks, engravings and paintings ensured a continuing steady stream of visitors which grew after the building of a new turnpike road up the valley in 1822 and the opening of a rail line in 1865."
In dreams there are no impossibilities
  • then maybe here...
Bath and Wells, took a leap with this one The twin cities of Bath And Wells are in Somerset (famous for Cider) and Bath could be the nude scenario, googling Bath and Wells Cider took me to Bishop's Appeal Cider being brewed to raise money for the Developement of the Bishop's Palace and Gardens. http:// www. bishopspalacewells. co. uk/ development.php

"Bishop’s Palace Appeal Cider – Gaymer Cider Company has generously produced a special limited edition cider in support of the Appeal. You can buy a single bottle for £1.75 or a case of 8 bottles for £12.50 – a great Christmas present idea – you can buy the cider from the Bishop’s Palace shop, or from our stall at Wells Market on 23rd December between 08.30 and 16.00. If you would like to place a larger order you will find forms and delivery details on the Palace website www. bishopspalace. org. uk or call the Palace Trust office on 01749 988 111."
In dreams there are no impossibilities
  • then I think (this one is a little tenuous, maybe Reniannen can confirm that I am right in saying, here...
Moreton Bay, nr Brisbane, New South Wales

I found a ship called the Fortitude, who's captain was John Christmas (could this be the day she carried) anyway in september 1848, she left Gravesend (wich is NorthEast of Wells, ok mainly East but a bit North as well :D ) and arrived in Moreton Bay, nr Brisbane, New South Wales in January 1849 carrying free settlers to the colony.

some more googling of New South Wales and Bourgeois gave me the title of a book...

    McKenzie, Kirsten, 1970-
Discourses of Scandal: Bourgeois Respectability and the End of Slavery and Transportation at the Cape and New South Wales
Journal of Colonialism and Colonial History - Volume 4, Number 3, Winter 2003
