Sure start 500 is only available to people on an income based benefit

Health in pregnancy 190 is available to all I think.
Sure start, although not around much longer, is also income based and can be claimed if the claimant is getting more than the family element, not including the baby element, of child tax credits.

and put in your claim for housing benefit/LHA and council tax benefit...no-one expects you to pay this from your £65 (unless you are living with family/patner)

    • Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element - The family element can be higher if a child is aged under 1
    • Working Tax Credit where a disability or severe disability element is included in the award

Does the bit in red mean that anyone who has a baby & CTC can claim the sure start *after* the baby is born as long as they have updated their CTC to get the higher award and it is within 3 months?

And basically anyone on an IB benefit can get it before the baby is born, so will receive it no matter what, but someone who is not on an IB benefit, can only then get it if the birth is successful.

    .
They may already claim CTC at the applicable rate and can claim it at 29 weeks preg, otherwise they would have to claim after the baby was born and they were in reciept of CTC.

Yes they may already have a child under 1 (after the 11 weeks before due date) and already getting the qualifying CTC rate. Otherwise they will have to apply for CTC quickly after baby arrives, assuming they get CTC then anyone can get the Sure start grant.

In practice how simple is this process, I mean how long does it take to get a CTC payout in order to then qualify for and apply within 3 months for the SSMG?

all i know is we were eligable to claim 500 grant until we claimed tax credits. and then we were entitled. i think it say if you get child tax credit higher than the family element,

basically if tax credits give you more than 1000 quid a year child tax then u can claim. thats what i was told and we got.

the 190 we got around 28 weeks i think. and im sure veryone can claim it, you just need your midwife to fill in details

are ctc came throught with in 2 weeks. and we basically worked out we would qualify for the grant of 500 when we set up the ctc so we sent of the grant paperwork just before we had are ctc come back.

i just rang tax credits and they told me pretty much when it would be up and running.

with regards to the community care grant of 500 quid. you can claim this.

after the baby is born you have 3 months to claim it. when you claim child benefit and also child tax credit you will be entitled

we were in the same position when are daughter was born in may and we couldnt claim before but after she was born we could.

im not sure on the 190 quid but as im aware of it we did claim for it and recived it when we first could.

thanks very much for your reply, you have put my mind at rest for the time being, i heard the £190 health in pregnancy grant will be stopped in jan 2011 :( unless you are over 25 weeks pregnant, i will be 23 !! hopefully i can still apply.

    thanks again :)
