Hi

My daughter would like me to buy her a Blackberry Pearl 8100 unlocked on a sim only contract. Re-mobile have some refurbished ones at 69.99 only not sure if that is a good deal as I would have to get a sim seperatly.

Any advice.

Thanks

  • I don't know a great deal about the blackberry pearl , but I have just got a blackberry bold and I have to say this is the best phone I have ever had ! I am sure I read somewhere that the pearl is not such good build quality and I think they are cheaper than the other blackberry models to buy new . might be worth doing some more research before purchasing ?
Also if you are having to get the sim seperately , watch out for some networks charging extra for use with a blackberry - this definately is the case with vodafone on contracts , I don't know if this applies to other networks.

It's ancient for a start, and you'll need a blackberry tariff from your service provider to make the internet and email work. £70 isnt bad, but I can think of better things to do with that money

I have a Pearl 8120 for personal use (Orange PAYG) and a Curve 8520 for work. The Curve wins hands down. The trackball on the Pearl is noisy and inprecise, whereas the touchpad on the Curve is smooth and accurate. Also the Curve is much easier for emails and texting because it has a proper albeit very small QWERTY keyboard. However the Pearl is smaller.

You can get a free Curve on Virgin for £12 a month.

If you go for a SIM only deal you will have to pay for the Blackberry email and internet service on top, its about £5 a month. As far as I know both Orange and T-Mobile allow you to add this to a SIM only deal not sure about the others.

    O2 do as well.
