Bit of a vent - Royal Mail

I'm usually quite happy with the service we get from Royal Mail, whether it's our usual postie delivering letters & packets or the vans delivering larger parcels.

However, I'm a bit miffed this morning and I'd like some opinions whether to complain.
Here's what happened:

I went downstairs and found a Royal Mail 'Something for you' card pushed through the door.

Now, I've not been out of the house at all this morning and I'm 100% sure that I'd have heard if someone had knocked at the door.

The 'Something for you' card says.......
"Packet in green bin"

So that will be the dustbin then.

Now today is the day they empty our green bins and they do come quite early in the morning - pre 8am - so theres' no chance that the package would have been taken by the bin men.
But would a RM delivery driver know that?

Am I wrong to think it crazy to put a parcel in a dustbin?

And would anybody else complain about it?

    Not necessarily, Freddie.

This was somebody in a van, not my usual postie who I've already said is good.

I must have overdosed on the happy tablets this morning (:rotfl:) as I'm only a bit annoyed about it and am thinking 'there's no harm done'.

I'd really appreciate your view on whether I'm wrong to be a 'bit miffed' about my delivery being put in a dustbin.

I had another delivery this morning and I definitely heard the guy in the van knocking at the front door, so I'm totally convinced that the delivery guy yesterday didn't knock at all.

I'm thinking of dropping an email to RM just to explain what happened and ask them to have a word with their drivers not to put stuff in dustbins - what do you think?

Did you get the parcel or not? If you did, then I would be inclined not to complain and risk getting someone into trouble.

It wouldn't bother me if mine was left in the bin, ours are only collected once every two weeks and on bin day we leave them out on the pavement, so it would be pretty obvious not to put it in on that day.

Thanks Geri, yes I did get my parcel but I also got a big jolt to my heart when I picked up the card left by the delivery man and read 'Packet in green bin!' - his exclamation mark, not mine.

My first thought was 'Oh !!!!, it's green bin day today' before I dashed outside, lifted the lid and saw the parcel.

I don't want to make a fuss or get anybody into trouble, as I say in my post:

but I'm sure that this guy didn't knock and although MY parcel was OK, that doesn't mean that all the other parcels that he may put in dustbins will be.

We had this with a certain courier.....

In my view i'm sorry but it is not acceptable to put a parcel in the bin. Whoever is delivering doesn't know what day bin day is and the very fact that most people would have a 2 week collection, i don't know about anyone else's bin but ours can get quite pongy and what if bags had leaked then your parcel would have been ruined....

Would people be happy to receive a new parcel and then put in their household bin with the rubbish, i don't think so...

Personally i would complain, we did both to the courier and the company that sent the parcel as the courier company said they had been given permission to leave it somewhere "safe" when in actual fact they hadn't....and to me a bin that may or may not have been emptied or be full of 2 week old rubbish is not "safe"

    Thanks.
In fairness to the delivery guy (and I DO want to be fair), the bin was empty apart from 3 cardboard insides from toilet rolls and of course he would have seen that before he put the parcel in there.
