Palm Smartphones Reduced

Hey,

I wanted share that O2 retail stores have drastically reduce the price of the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus on PAYG.

Palm Pixi plus (available online too): £119.99 (This includes the £10 top up required)
Palm Pre plus: £189.99 (This includes the £10 top up required)

Both of which are locked to O2, but remember Tesco sims also work on these

I'm currently on the £15 tariff with 500MB data, 3000 text messages and 500 minutes tariff

Hmm, my Palm Pre has a software fault. It's less than a year old and O2 would like to charge me £101 to repair it. This on the grounds that the case has a crack and thus the warranty is invalid.

I don't quite see how a cracked case affects a known software bug, so I've fired off an email to O2 to ask about this. As it stands, much as I love the Palm Pre, if O2 intend shipping goods with faulty software and then reneging on their legal obligations under the Sale of Goods Act, I shall be steering clear of O2 and all they have to offer.
This advice worth only what you paid for it
  • They have been reduced as they can't sell them. Great OS but the hardware along with o2's terrible customer service towards the Pre and their owners was and still is shocking.

If it doesn't say Apple on it o2 aren't concerned.

What's the software fault? Haven't heard much about that, though have heard of cracked cases. O2 are pretty shocking with the Palms, but it was the same with iPhones when they were exclusive, they have to fight harder with the other networks. Exclusivity is bad!

wow but o2 customer service is pants and would touch them with a barge pole. Orange and Vodafone are better than them. on price and coverage and service.

I wouldn't touch the Palm with a barge pole and would agree that O2's customer service is shocking and their prices are not the best. However i'd disagree with your coverage comment - in my experience O2's coverage is vastly better than Orange and Vodafone...

When using the phone for a normal call the speaker and mic do not work. So, it's not possible to hear either side of the conversation.

Putting it on Speakerphone, allows for the called party to be heard. Using a Bluetooth headset allows for a call to made/heard successfully.

It's nothing new, a fault that's been around for 2 x years but for O2 to try on like this is poor customer service. The sort of thing I'd expect from a well known financial company or an airport.

Ah right well if you've confirmed that it's a software fault you're stuck with O2's service then. Just in case though, have you tried fiddling in the headphone socket with a pin? There's a sensor in there in most phones (including the Pre) to tell the phone whether to output to speakers or headset, and it's possible they can get stuck. Doesn't explain why the speakerphone still works though...
