I got the job at Asda really shocked about this - have decided to take it as the hours will fit around finishing off my PhD and the kids. The contract is 14 hours a week on an evening. My supervisor said a lot of students on write up get these sort of jobs to tide them over so should be good for me.
If I put all the money from it into overpaying £400 a month we will have it paid off in 13 years halving the term yay! Oh has said he's considering a bar job as well a couple of evenings a week so that we can put some more into overpayingOPs so far £42,139

ive just read your diary and wanted to wish you well on your journey, for me its like a rollercoaster, one day you make an o.p. you feel on top of the world, then a few days later things drag you down and you feel like not bothering. just keep at it and watch your balance drop.!Mortgage free:beer:

Congratulations on the job! :j Just the sort of thing I would like myself when I go back to work.
About the girls running in the family thing....my next door neighbour has only boys going back in his family for 140 years. They didn't bother to find out the sex of their baby as assumed it would be a boy and they had a girl, followed 2 years later by another girl!
I think you are doing the right thing completing your Phd. I started a professional qualification through work, changed to a manager who refused to give me any time or support to complete the work, changed jobs into a different field then work took away the funding but I persevered and completed it last year. I am so pleased I did as otherwise all the work I had completed on it would have been wasted and it gave me something to show for the 6 years I worked in this field if I ever decide to work at that level again.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

I didn't take the job at Asda in the end - the hours were unmanageable they wanted me to work Friday, Saturday, Sunday 10pm-6am. I'd have got unsociable hours pay so would have earned £864 a month after tax which would have been amazing but I'd have been like a walking zombie.
OH said I wasn't allowed to do it as it would mess up looking after the girls. Plus he wasn't willing to give up his Friday and Saturday nights with the lads. So onward and upwards.
OH really annoys me because on the one hand he's always saying get a job.but he makes it so difficult. He doesn't want me to work during the week as I'm with the girls, he won't give up his Friday and Saturday nights. He doesn't want me to work both Saturday and Sundays because then we wouldn't get family time but we'll see.
Ultimately it's because he wants me to finish my PhD so that I can return to academia and he's secretly worried about looking after our youngest with her congenital heart and lung problems - if anything happened with her he'd want me to be there. Plus she's breastfed and still less than four months old.OPs so far £42,139

A job that suits will come, just keep going. Your youngest is still so small you have a bit of time to think and write up. You are so far down the road with that PhD it has got to be worth attacking it so just get it done. Really enjoying your diary.0

golfiematt thanks for taking the time to read my diary - good luck with your journey too.
Having a good day today. I ordered most of my christmas pressies from pampered chef as my friend had a party. Another friend is an agent for them. When they arrived today I had 5 free gifts, three more than expected so I'm debating whether to save them for presents later in the year.
People have kindly commented that my present spend is quite high £50 a month (so perhaps really should save them for later in the year in theory would give me five more presents) I am bad at reducing spending on present though so we'll see.
OH wasn't impressed today when we were in ELC and we were discussing christmas budgeting and I included £10 each for three friends children. But then my overall budget is £20 each for our two so may have to reconsider.
It's just that I want our girls to know the value in giving but not expecting to receive anything but perhaps that isn't fair.OPs so far £42,139

After a weekend trip to Mr S have decided to try and make more of my own food. Have bought stuff to make homemade bread. There's no excuse not to because I am a SAHM (as friends regularly remind me 'you don't work' like I sit on my !!!! doing nothing) but it is somthing I could try and involve DD1 who's 2 in maybe!
OH is off work ill today, think DD1 also has it mildly (sickness and poo thing) - not impressed I like Mondays as my tidy up day after the weekend and the house looks like a bomb has hit it. On a positive we are now into November and still managing to have the heating off most of the time. Had it on for 3 hours twice last week. (we wrap up well and keep active indoors)
Weather awful here today so have easily stayed in nursing the troops and had a no spend day.OPs so far £42,139

You are so right about one final push with the PhD I was chatting with my mum last night and she said that she thinks it would be best for me to stay out of the rat race until Sept 2011 finish PhD and look to get an academic post for Sept 2011 by then girlies will be nearly 3 and 14 monthsOPs so far £42,139

Hi Sarahevie,
I've just read all your diary and enjoyed it. Well done on all your money-saving ways. Is your heating on now? Its been freezing here today, I couldn't get warm at all.
To add to the baby thing...I had 4 boys, 1 girl and another boy. I can honestly say that I'm thrilled with all of them. Girls clothes are so much nicer than boys though.
Sept 2011 isn't that long away - it doesn't seem worth going back in the meantime !
IrisI can't be bothered updating this anymore0 -

Thanks so much for stopping by Iris. I had to give in about the heating we've had it on for 3 hours each of the last two days OH is a wuss.
Had a bad day for spending yesterday. Had to take DD2 to see the consultant at our nearest specialist centre which meant getting the commuter train into Leeds at 8.19 with a double pushchair not fun.
After our 9.15 appointment we went out for breakfast, then lunch, then did some christmas shopping managed OH's for £50 not bad. Then I treated DD1 to some Marks and Spencer chocolate £1.19 for 6 tiny pieces absolutely scandalous but she was so good. She sat really quietly with a book whilst they hooked up DD2 onto the ECG then scanner, then X ray.OPs so far £42,139
