I thinks its fantastic that you have little left at the end of every month that your still trying to become mortgage free.
Good Luck to you and I hope sincerly you can do it. Every penny counts and these forums teach you so much.
Once I have got rid of my large Credit card bill I will be coming over to this board to join you.

You should do a signature! Honestly, I am so sad, updating my signature is the highlight of my financial month! OK, no updates lately but when I was trying to get rid of the CC it was brilliant to see it coming down. Good luck!0

I've spent my whole life living frugally and saving so it comes fairly naturally to me. Me and my mum used to go round the supermarket adding up anything that went in the basket.
Me and OH barely went out for months as students to pay off his 5K credit cards.
When we moved into our house in Nov 07 we had nothing but in 2 1/2 years managed to save 30K - whilst earning a combined 30K per annum
More than anything I started this diary not to attack the mortgage as much but to have a bit extra every month so that we're not constantly penny pinching.

Hit my target of no spend days.
Have managed three so far this week. As I was living fairly frugally before this has only saved me £21-£30 but over a year that's £1000!
I haven't even missed it as it was always just drinks whilst playing with the kids or a magazine.
It's not like we haven't been out either - we've been out on all my no spend days. However instead of going to the soft play centres (£3 a time) we have just been to friends or the park. I'm even going out to dinner tonight for free (my friend has invited us round.)
The weather isn't great today so we have stayed in the majority of the day just went for a walk earlier (free again)!
Me and DD1 have been sorting out my 0-3 baby clothes as DD2 is now 15 weeks old. OH wants to get rid as they were all second hand when we were given them from family and both our two have used them. He told me when I was pregnant that if I had a boy we could have another but if it was a girl we couldn't have anymore as he doesn't want to risk 3 girls.
We have a lot of girls in my family my great grandma was one of three, my grandma one of three, my mum one of two, I'm one of two and I've got two! That's five generations of women all having girls!
He's already coming round though and I'd love another so I might just hide them in the loft (I have recycled some that are getting past it) and given some to the charity shop (as I like to save half and give away half cos I'm really grateful for my life.)
I'm thinking in the long run it can be cheaper to save rather than have to buy them again!OPs so far £42,139

Hehehe I would hide the ones you love! I bet they would go all small, air tight and loft concealable if you put them in one of those vacuum bags... :TMFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years

Hi
Just noticed your new diary. On paper you have a similar amount left over per month as we do. Ie not enough. :rotfl:I wish i had the answer to that.
I'm also a SAHM so i tend to ebay, do surveys and dooyoo, and a bit of mystery shopping, and all of these little bits then go to the mortgage. Then once you have been doing it a while, it becomes more fulfilling as i have set it so the mortgage payments come down, and then i can choose whether to overpay or have a treat. Keep going, as all the little bits do add up and you will get there with persistence. I've knocked off a couple of thousand more than i would have with just normal payments this year.0 -

Thanks for stopping by chamichelle. I wish that I knew too. It's ok on a month to month basis but I do get fed up constantly having to watch what we are spending to make sure we don't go overdrawn etc.
I've managed four no spend days this week, as today I was minding my friends little girl whilst she did some viewings of her house (it's for sale). Yet still I've had the worst week in a long time for spending.
Spent £130.50 on christmas presents. On the plus side that has covered MIL, FIL, Mum, Dad, BIL, sister - so only OH, 2 kiddies left so not too bad but still we've now only got £160 to last 18 days (no more bills thankfully) but will have to go food shopping, petrol etc.
The car insurance is due on the 4th of Nov, closely followed by the home insurance on the 27th of Nov. It feels never ending.
Sorry for whining I find Oct/ Nov really stressful generally - don't like dark nights and all my big annual bills come all at onceOPs so far £42,139

Yay things are starting to look up. OH has been invited for an assessment day for a new job.
He's been in his minimum wage job for 6 years - never wanting to leave for fear of uncertainty. Then when the credit crunch hit he was really worried about moving in case he ended up being made redundant, getting laid off etc.
However, finally he's found the courage to go for it. Annually the job is the same amount he comes out with now (but he will only have to work 30 hours over 4 days) rather than 52 over 6 like he does right now. If he worked the hours he currently does in the new job he'd earn an extra £10K per annum. I'm trying not to get ahead of ourselves but he's got through the first stage and more importantly I'm thrilled that he's considering applying for jobs - as previously he has refused like a petulant toddler.
Also OH can't drive, he's failed his test three times. He has a go at driving for a year, has a test fails and then gives up. He hasn't had a lesson in at least three years (he's 27) however, he has actually booked some lessons now. Money saving it might not be, but will certainly help the job search and our lives in general!
As for me I've been invited for an interview at a local supermarket it's only 14 hours on an evening on a check out but we wouldn't need childcare and it would get me out of the house. I think it would suit the stage I'm at with the kids (I can't face a return to academia with DD2s health problems)OPs so far £42,139
