Virgin Media Belfast area - caller ID

Hi guys,
I am posting here as opposed to in the cable type forum because it is specific to belfast.
We recently migrated to Virgin. They did tell us that caller ID would be coming online free so that was great. It has not turned out to do so. I thus gave them a call and now they tell me that not only is it not free, but it is actually not available. The internet brings up a bunch of results (tending to be years old) saying that ID was not available in all area. So can anyone else in Belfast (or Holywood) comment as to whether they ahve it? This would confirm if the local 'exchange' is enabled and I can then ring back and shout at them!
Thanks

I was offered it during online sign up, but balked at paying £2 a month and decided I could live without it. All digital exchanges should have the facility by default and to be honest it's simple to enable so no way should they charge this exorbitent fee.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

I agree but I am more concerned that they tell me I cannot have it at all! The latest call has them telling me that, because of where my box had to be located because of signal strength, caller ID is not available in my property. If you ask me, there is an error on their system and the call center guys cannot be bothered to check it out properly!!Always overestimating...0

In terms of exchanges being enabled, we've got Caller ID from them in the BT4 area.
And yes, we're mug enough to pay the fee for it0 -
Thanks for that confirmation Neil... you are not too far away. To be honest, I really assumed that this service would be included... we have real issues living wihtout it!Always overestimating...0

Right. He is why you do not have it.
Outside Sullivan Upper on the corner of Abbey Ring & at other various places thruout Belfast are two large green boxes. The larger one is a Mux,where all the telephone kit is.Inside this box is a load of circuit boards called Line Cards. Each Line card holds 30 Channels,or subscribers (customers) phone numbers.
Each Line Card costs around £2000 for a basic one.Unless the standard Line Card has been swapped out for a CLI enabled Line Card, you will not have caller ID.
The are a number of Mux's that have not been enabled, sounds like your's is one of them.
The reason I know this as fact,is I am an ex-NTL/VM engineer who worked on the Belfast network.0
