Windows Vista RC2 - free download

http://www.computeractive.co.uk/2157884

How to install Vista the safe, easy free way - step-by-step guide with screenshots, if you're feeling brave.

"Note: This is beta code and should not be used in a production environment or on a primary computer in the home. RC1 is intended for developers, IT professionals, and technology experts to continue or begin their testing of Windows Vista. Before you decide to use RC1, you should feel comfortable with installing operating systems, updating drivers, and general PC troubleshooting. Some risks of using beta operating systems include hardware and software incompatibility and system instability. If you have concerns about installing this beta software on your computer, we encourage you to obtain the final release version of Windows Vista when it is available in 2007." (from click here)

Just a reminder to all who want to use Vista Beta - to my knowledge there is NO antivirus software on the market yet that will protect Vista systems. There are Beta softwares you can get but being Beta they are NOT supported by standard support channels and I wouldn't count on a rapid assistance if you have problems...

As the OP has already posted: If you are not IT savvy and know what you are doing DO NOT INSTALL THIS!

If any of you look at this as a freebie.................

Read the advice above first. It is so important, and the best advice on this thread so far.

Thanks for the link. I've been testing Vista since the beta versions were out. ;) I remember it used to be called "Codename: Longhorn" before they named it Vista.

Microsoft rarely releases a RC3, so I predict the final release will be late November or early December/January. Mark my words. ;)

It's been VERY public knowledge for a long time now that Vista has been put back until next Jan. It will be released to the big computer manufacturing companies just before the end of this year.

If either of you think that these dates are priviledged information, you are way behind the times.

on the plus sides, i've seen AVG and McAfee enterprise V7 working on Vista RC1. Also, it seems VERY stable, and it is the Ultimate edition, which means it works on tablet PCs, media centre PCs and network domains (previously, MCE couldn't join a domain due to fast user switching).

On the down side, It's time limited software expiring June 1st 2007. So even if you bought the RC1 DVD for £6 you've only got an OS for 8 months.

On the overly scrouplous side, there's nothing to stop you sticking this on a PC as a "FREE" os for 6 months offer on computer you might be selling over xmas :P Certainly overcomes the expensive XP for the time being, even if it is time limited.
