Very confused now

My life changes so fast but basically I decided to claim housing benefit for the room I rent for me and my girlfriend as I lost my job. Well now my girlfriends sister is needing to live with us as she needs to study here while her mum is living in Spain, she is 15. I am 20 my girlfriend is just turning 17 and still in education. Basically I don't know what to do, would I be entitled to any housing?

You need to check as she is a minor have you guardianship? you can't just take on a child like that.
I can't believe her mother is bummming of to spain.
  • Is it hard to get legal guardianship? its only temporary for 5 months. She has to go its to do with family.

No disrespect, you clearly want to do the best for your girlfriend, but are you sure you are able to take on a fifteen year old girl? I think you need to put yourself first a bit more! ;)
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I've said I will help already its to late, even if it means I'll be struggling. Just wondered if I could get any help rather than share a single bedroom with my girlfriend and her sister.

Also has the landlord given permission. How are you going to feed and clothe her with no money and pay for all the school things? Where's she meant to sleep? In your bed watching you? What if she's ill? I could go on and on I am on my second 15 year old now.
  • She will be on the floor till I sort somewhere else to live and I'm hoping I can claim child benefit to pay for her food.

You won't get any help as it's only for 5 months. Any money you get of her parents you will have to declare to the social as income.

Will you be looking for somewhere else to live? If so, remember you will need to be able to pay the rent once she has moved home.

Sorry to put a downer on things, it just seems like they are taking advantage of your good nature. I'm sure someone will be along soon who can answer your question - it might be worth editing your title to Temporary/ Short Term Guardianship to help someone spot it.

What is happening to the family home while the mother is living in Spain - can't you all live there?
  • There is no family home, it was rented.
