Security tag on jacket

Hi,
My wife bought a jacket from Asda a few months back (she thinks it was in July). It is a heavy jacket, so she has only just started wearing it, and she has realised that it still has a security tag attached.
I have told her to just go back to the store, explain the situation, and ask them to remove the tag.
However, because she believes that she no longer has the receipt, she is concerned about being put in a difficult position at the store.
As far as she remember, she paid for the jacket on her credit card (at a self service checkout), and so should be able to find the credit card bill. However, of course, the bill is not itemised and she may have bought several items at the same time, so there will also not likely be a matching amount.
Just wondered if anybody could advise on the best course of action to avoid any embarrassment at the store.

Phone in advance, explain the situation and get the name of someone on the service desk to speak to. This isn't that rare an occurance tbf. Also, remember that the alarms will go off as you're walking IN to the store. For maximum amusement, time your entrance with someone else exiting the store.0

some tags are 2 piece magnets, try holding by a strong magnet(back of a speaker) and see if they come apartI

It's relatively simple! You just leave the jacket in your car, or have someone wait outside the store with the jacket and go in and explain the situation at the customer services desk. (If you phone ahead there's a chance you're going to speak to the wrong person or they'll have gone off on a break before you get there!) Then when you walk back into the shop with the jacket they already know what's going on.
This also has the advantage that if they refuse because you haven't got your receipt you just walk out again!
PS. If you've walked out with the security tag, chances are it's faulty anyway and won't set off the detectors!0 -
If its just a alarm tag and not a dye tag. Carefully wack it with a hammer.0

Thanks for all the advice.
I haven't actually gotten around to taking it back yet, because there hasn't been a convenient time, when my wife either didn't need the jacket or could come to the store.
I do favour the plan of calling the store ahead of time, I just hope I don't get anybody overzealous.
If it sounds like it could be a problem, I might then revert to just removing it, although I am reluctant to have to do that and risk damaging the jacket, when it was purchased legitimately.
I think that the tag is just electronic rather than dye-filled (although I am not expert). My wife has had no problems going into many shops with the jacket on, so it may well be that the tag is faulty.
As has been mentioned above, this must be a fairly common problem (especially given the number of self-service tills these days), so hopefully it won't be a big problem.
I will post back here when I have dealt with the store, to let you know.
In the meantime, thanks again for your help.0 -
I have had this twice now and just removed the tags with wire cutters. Tesco is the one I have problems with they sometime forget to remove the tag. I got stopped once and security guard couldn't find tag on clothing we we walked out and we found it when we got home0

I received a coat for christmas last year from asda.
My little ones purchased it for me, everytime i went in or out of asda and other shops the alarm went off, i either just looked around or if asked to stop did so showed my receipt let them look through my bags and off i went.
About 4 months later noticed a security tag inside the coat :0)
I had the receipt though so took it back and got it removed.0
