RAC Cover through Tesco

About to use £20 of Tesco vouchers to get RAC cover worth £79. Our current policy is with RAC but expires at the start of November. Going to cancel the renewal and open the new policy in my name (existing one is in my wifes name). Has anyone opened RAC through Tesco? Just wondering how long it takes to take effect. Read in the terms and conditions that you use your vouchers on the Tesco site like a normal transaction but then have to send a form of to the RAC which can take 2 weeks to process - just therefore wondering at what point in October I should apply. Any help much appreciated

I was wondering that. Mine is due for renewal.

I wonder if you need the full quota of vouchers or part pay with vouchers and the rest in cash.

I had considered doing this but it seemed that Tesco site were quoting more for the same cover than on the RAC site direct IYSWIM.

Anyway, dont know when you last looked on Tescos for the deals on this but looks as if its all changed. The cheapest now is a £25.75 deal (£103 normally) for Roadside at Home cover. The dearest being £41.25 (£165 normally) which is At Home Family cover.

I don't know about part payment, If you haven't got the full amount make sure you check out other options, see Martin's full article on breakdown recovery.

Anyway that aside, when you have sent/redeemed enough tokens they send you an application form in the post, saying you have prepaid membership for whichever level of cover you chose.

You get to specify on that form what date you want cover to start, so you may as well start applying now. Seems to take the RAC just over a week to process in my past experience.

The form has prepaid ordinary postage. They recommend you send it special delivery as cannot be replaced etc. I just photocopied the form first before sending it normally. If it's so crucial why don't they send the blank form to you by Special Delivery eh?

Thanks to the last 2 posters - wife has just cancelled her renewal and I have just been on the Tesco site and ordered the cover with my clubcard vouchers (first time I have used them online and surprised at how easy it is). Hopefully I will get the form sent through the post and the cover will be completed in time for the start of November

If you take cover out using vouchers, can you renew easily the following year with vouchers ? Or do you have to cancel your cover/let it expire then renew ?

I think you can renew every year with the vouchers. It has the following statement in the t&c's which suggest you would be ok. "existing memberships will continue from the renewal date, unless otherwise notified"

My partner broke down in his old banger but managed to get home so I decided to buy him an RAC membership with my Tesco vouchers.

The day his membership became effective, he had an accident on the M6 and needed a tow with the RAC all the way to North Wales.

    Tokens well spent methinks !

I have just been sent a renewal from RAC with 50% off. Can I still use Tesco vouchers for this? Does anyone know? Do the Tesco RAC vouchers come through with a particular standard of cover on them or can you use as many/few as you like? Thanks,
