AA & RAC no cover for small business

  • The patrolman will look for signs of business (tools etc.) but also if the person breaks down and makes a call whilst the patrolman is attending - something along the lines 'I'll be a late for our business appointment as I'm broken down and the RAC if fixing my vehicle - then again the patrolman will curtail his activities.

I would imagine most people would make make this call after ringing the RAC, so I doubt very much s/he would such phone calls.

But thanks for the warning......if I did have to make such a call with the RAC present, I'd do it so that they couldn't hear me.

I'm surprised to hear this to be honest and i'm guessing its a new thing?

I have had to have the AA out twice this year for my astra estate which is used for business, (1 minor, 1 major fault) and on both occassions the patrol never queried anything. The car is fully sign written and can't be missed.

My renewal is in December so will see what they say then.

Just checked T&C on the AA and I think your info is wrong, I can't comment on the RAC T&C's. The AA doesn't state anything about business use, they do state they won't be liable for any loss of business, profit or contracts etc from a breakdown recovery. They do have a maximum weight of 3.5 tonnes and a maximum width of 2.3M though, that is all I can see............
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

I'm on a standard AA family policy and they've recovered me twice in my sign written van, even whilst towing a large trailer

Either it's a new policy or maybe just a scam attempt by the call centre operator. About 2 years ago we went on holiday to North Wales and were going on a day trip to Dublin. I called up the AA to see if I was covered and the lady wanted to sell me European cover.

As I was on the call to her I was googling for the answer and found that the ROI was included with standard UK cover and I didn't need the Euro cover.

Were the AA aware that you ran a business when you initially took out the policy?

If so I'd be wondering if you can reclaim all those years of premiums, ala PPI.
